At the Cal-Neva, of course, for a four-day, three-night gambling junket involving Bloody Marys, smoking, and loads of 3-buck craps & blackjack, and probably an Awful-Awful or three, a ride in that sweet Cal-Neva limo, a swing thru Shooters, possible ice skating, and a general sense of delight and wonderment....
Per the results of my earlier poll, gambling in Reno is perfect way to wave goodbye to 2011 and say HELLO 2012... who else is going to Reno for New Year's Eve? |

Man, oh, man, that is indeed a dream vacation.
Sure, I could pine for some remote tropical island beach thingy, or some pompous art tour of Europe's museums, but I think you've dialed in the right number.
Hoist one for Stan when you get there! |

That will work out fine- John can take the photos for us to enjoy.
I might recommend that you try your Biellmann spin on the ice and THEN start on the Bloody Mary's. |

But the photos will be so much better if I'm pie-eyed spinning about on the ice.... or near it or something...
I'm itching to go now, but the children are still here in town so I'll have to be patient and ponder writing a pre-trip report..... |

Eased into town after getting pulled from a snowdrift by a Ford tractor, whose driver happened upon us when he spotted the glitter of empty glass bottles in the snow. For his graciousness, we shared the rest of our port wine with him and eased into Reno without further incident.
That put us well behind our planned schedule of Bloody Marys and exotic beers so we tossed the keys off to the CalNeva valet and flipped a couple deuces to him to get the bags to the room and we scurried across Virginia to the welcoming worn carpet of the CalNeva. Drinks in hand, we tossed the dice and what do you know? I'm on the wall on the fame for a consecutive 144 rolls without a seven-out! Nice. For my efforts, I received a genuine pack of Cal-Neva matches with logo, plus two dollars and a fifty-cent piece in tips.
The Dog declared it was high time to grab some chow so we mosied on over to that Basque restaurant and ate God-only-knows-what, but it was tasty.
Off to those magic flashy blinky machines upon which I promptly lost my two dollar and fifty cent tip, plus several hundred more. But the drinks were flowing and all was right with the world...
More to come soon... including the Moment with the Lady of the Night and It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's..... John???? |

Preach on, brotha! (Shooty)
Lily, you forgot to mention it was a turned over bee truck that caused the "detour" in the snow drift. |

Oh yeah... the bee truck! Musta been all the port wine that clouded my memory... (Shooty, The Dog is quite gracious in not revealing what a high-maintenance pain-in-the-arse I actually am.... and no, I don't have any unmarried extra sisters.... <grin>)
So on with the pre-trip report:
Somehow or another, we went schlepping down Virginia to go swipe our cards at Eldo & SL and we were both lucky enough to score a 10% off any ONE item in the gift shop at ElDo (tax not included) and then four free Mansion entries each! Whew. All that winning and walking caused both of us to need extra cocktails on the spot so we settled in to our favorite Pai Gow dealer, who promptly went off shift and thus caused both of us to lose more cash.
But no worries! It was almost New Year's Eve and luck would come our way.... little did we know her name would be Penny.
Penny was a brazen tart who happened upon The Dog as he was placing his sportsbet over at the Cal-Neva. She was chawing a turkey leg and reeking of menthol cigarettes and stale beer. The Dog was sporting one of his kilts and she wanted to know what was underneath. The Dog replied, "My socks, of course." This caused chortles from the bookie and a quick left hook from Penny and then hilarity ensued as the security from Cal-Neva magically appeared to try and capture Penny as she stumbled about waving her turkey leg screaming about bloody Scots and anklebiters and tipping over tables and ashtrays. During this roustabout, the bookie punched in the wrong numbers for The Dog but no one realized this until after the game later that night when we managed to pull out a 999-to-1 win on a $100 bet for the game.
Time for a refresher on those cocktails... more to come later... |

I'm starting to wonder if Lily's pre-trip and Mammoth's trip-trip will merge into one - they both have that 'fantastic' quality!
The booze is blurring all distinctions...must...go...to...Reno! |

By now it was long past bedtime and with our pockets overflowing from that incident with Penny and the ensuring madness, we decided to find our room. After a brief detour with those nickel-spitting lobby machines at the CalNeva (no nickels spit for us, alas...), we made it to the splendor of our fourth floor room. Promptly crashed out until we heard a polite tap-tap, "Housekeeping. You want new towels?" Tap tap. "Housekeeping. You want clean sheet?"
What the hell... clean sheets! Sign us up! (We forgot to flip that cool vintage "Maid, Please make up this room" sign over to the Do Not Disturb side)
Daylight had hit Reno and we gathered up our shoes and accouterments, put on the sunglasses, and headed out for some coffee and merriment at the Sky Bar. As it turns out, shoes aren't necessary at the Cal-Neva.... however, those strange stains really call for them...
So a few hands in on VP and The Dog decides to stroll down for some of that three-buck blackjack and I keep feeding myself Bailey's with a coffee back and the machine keeps feeding itself my Jacksons. Arg.
Off to the craps table where I am immediately recognized as that broad who threw 144 in a row and within seconds phone lines are lighting up and the table hasn't a space to spare. The dice come my way and while not a stellar roll, everyone makes a few bucks. The Dog is holding his own tossing down green chips for blackjack and stacking 'em back up. Nice.
At this point, it seems like it's high time to grab some fresh air so we color up and cash out. We stroll out to Virginia and find ourselves at Shooters...
This is where it gets a bit murky again, but I remember hula hoops and then there was a big puff of fire and dancing girls, a mess of burly fellas, and at some point, I took a nap under the pool table. Upon crawling out from under there, The Dog is busy filming this bird singing hits from the 80s - Higgins!
Cheers all around and we hoist a few more drinks before getting a CalNeva host on the phone who promptly sends down that sweet limo to bring us all back to the storied halls of the CalNeva for dinner at the Top Deck (priority seating not guaranteed, though Higgins' charming nature causes a stir and a parting of the line like the Red Sea). Steak 'n eggs and more cocktails and quick Keno service, too!
It seems like I'm missing a large part of the day here for the report and I probably am, but for now, I think this will do. |

Lily, if I were to type up my best drunken-fantasy Reno dream, I don't think I could approach the quality of literary excellence you are now delighting us with! Love the Shooter's episode! And getting the casino limo from Shooter's back to the Cal Neva.... Oh Baby!!!
And further - in the best of department, this maybe the best typo on the board yet. (If it is indeed a typo.)
Quoting Lily;
