First time in Reno for New Years. We were invited to the JA Nugget New Year's Eve VIP party which for some reason ends at 10pm. Was thinking of heading to downtown after to check out the fireworks. Where's the best place to view them?

Here's information gathered from the Silver Legacy's site:

Back by popular demand, Downtown Reno presents a spectacular New Year’s Fireworks Celebration like none other. Circus Circus Reno Hotel and Casino, Eldorado Hotel Casino, Harrah’s Reno Hotel and Casino, Silver Legacy Resort Casino, Club Cal Neva and the City of Reno have come together to present the 2012 New Year’s Fireworks Celebration.

Tens of thousands of revelers will pack Virginia St. in Downtown Reno for the non-stop 15-minute fireworks show. Lantis Fireworks will shoot state-of-the-art show fireworks and effects off the rooftops of Silver Legacy, Harrah’s and Club Cal Neva. Celebrants can view this mesmerizing show from every angle of the Downtown Reno skyline.

Hundreds of sparkling pyrotechnics will be shot off and synchronized to music from various artists who appeared in downtown Reno over the course of 2011. Then make their way into any Downtown Reno casino and party all night long.

They usually put on a very nice show with synched music aired by a local radio station. I don't know if they have made that arrangement this year, though.

As a bonus, RTC offers free rides between 7:00 pm and 4:00 am in an effort to keep the drunks off the roads.
