When considering the best breakfast buffet the criteria should include variety, atmosphere, quality and price to name a few. As far as breakfast places I know that Peg's, Cal Neva (Reno) will do quite well along with others (Black Bear maybe). This could have some interesting responses. |

Hitting the "golden age" of 55 has had it's advantages. Although I had not been to Reno in well over a year the Eldorado still honored my gold card and gave me a seniors discount on the breakfast buffet. I have always found this buffet to be a great start to a probably long day in Reno. Great selection of fruits, cereals (hot and cold), eggs (any style including an omelet station), carving station, Mexican goodies, waffles and many others. And of course there's donuts cheesecake and the like - if that's what you want for breakfast. (I do!) The staff are usually friendly and efficient (right there with coffee and juice etc.)
Honorable mention has to go to the Peppermill too. I believe seniors get a 2 for 1 deal on the breaky buffet. And of course the Pep's buffet has lots of atmosphere - Rain showers, storms and squawking birds. huge selection of good food too.
I have never tried Toucan Charlies at the Atlantis, but I have heard many positive things about it. |

Second here for Eldo Breakfast Buffet - low lighting, great service, fresh selection and a killer price!
We did Toucan Charlie's at Atlantis and it was extensive for the Sunday brunch, but I was a bit chapped about it because we were supposed to get two free buffets because we'd signed up and earned x-number of credits to get the buffet and when we went to redeem, all the sudden we had to pay an extra eight dollars or something for the buffets. They mumbled about having mimosas and crab legs and that was why, but still - if you're going to offer a free buffet with a charge, then it's not a free buffet. End rant.
Peg's doesn't do a buffet that I know of. We ate there during our Christmas trip two years ago and it was about $35 for the two of us (tip not included - check my Unchained trip report for the details). It was tasty and totally HUGE but pricey.
The Nugget on Virginia Street does do pancakes for like 2.99 or something ridiculously cheap.
And then my beloved Cal-Neva.... 4.99 steak 'n eggs. Perfect. Comes with hashbrowns. 'nuf said.
Has anyone done Sands downtown? I know Terrible's out in Verdi has some breakfast 2.22 special but we've never driven there to eat it that I can remember... |

Hi Lily. Don't take this the wrong way, but most of us like extensive buffets. Sorry. |

I didn't say extensive in a bad way! In fact, I just re-read my trip report from that visit and 'remembered' that they had OYSTERS ROCKEFELLER! I do recall that the desserts weren't that great... and I also see from my TR that we got clipped for TWELVE dollars for the Sunday brunch after offering up our two free buffet comps...
And I've not eaten their breakfast buffet, but the Silver Legacy puts on a wonderful dinner/lunch buffet... |

Sorry, I won't be much help.
My favorite is the garnish buffet that comes with Silver Legacy's Drinx Bar Bloody Mary Bar on Saturdays and Sundays.
But I must admit a soft spot for Cal-Neva and Peg's. |

I love me some Bloody Marys, but I've not yet indulged in the Bloody Mary bar at SL - it just seems blasphemous to pay $$ for cocktails while at a casino.... though I am tempted by it if we're playing there in the mornings... |

I've eaten breakfast at the Pep and Atlantis both buffies and for the $ liked the Pep best. As far as a good cheap breakfast the Cal Neva Reno is hard to beat. Though I've never had beakfast buffy at the Eldo/Harrah's that is going to happen. It would be nice if someone said what the prices are for the breakfast buffies and what the senior price would be. As a number of people on this board are 50+. |

VAPA, at the end of February and start of March I paid something like $5 for the Eldo's buffet (on weekdays). That's Seniors rate and Gold card combined. Here is link... http://www.eldoradoreno.com/reno-restaurants/the-buffet/
Perhaps there's an explanation on the site concerning seniors discounts but I don't know where to find it. (I didn't look too hard). |

I would skip the Harrah's buffet unless it's comped or super-cheap ($5 or less!) - it's really nothing special in my opinion. Not to mention, it doesn't open until 10am on weekends and I think they've stopped doing breakfast entirely during the week...
BUT Harrah's now has Hash House A Go Go.... that is a bigger breakfast than Peg's! Super giant! You can use your Harrah's points there, last I checked. The burgers are enough really for three meals. See mjames's various trip reports for details... |

I don't normally care for barfetts (a lingering disability attributed to Army chow lines)...but I recently stayed at the Eldo and ate breakfast there twice.
Eldo website SAYS breakfast is $ 8.99 for adults. But the easily obtained gold knocks of $ 2. And when I was there, another two bucks off on Weds. with "GOLD PLUS" cards= FREE.
It seems like hotel guests also get some kind of deal as well.
oh...here;s a link:

And if I could take the time to master digital camera...Lily would have before and after HAIRCUT pics...as well as MY paper club cards from Ascuaga's, old Comstock and Pioneer...as well as Silver Club IBM punch holes and a couple others. |

When I first started going to Reno (90-91) the Eldorado was BY FAR the best buffet in town. When Harrahs changed theirs in 97-98 it was VERY good but I dont go to Harrahs properties anymore. Silver Legacy is my fav now. DO NOT go to the buffet at CC. Whoa! |

Amen to NOT going to the CC buffet - we went there many years ago on our first big trip to Reno because we had a BOGO. Many folks who looked like JD pre-haircut could be found lounging around that chow line.... <grin> |
