Mammoth wasn't kidding harrahs installed a complete bowling lane
in there east town. They had to take a bunch of slots out to make
room for it. So to compensate for that they closed their Keno lounge
and move it in with the cashiers cage, that they had already moved
the Total Rewards booth in to, Man is that going to be a mess! Every
thing they have done this year is taking from the players! The only
good that comes from playing their is that they have so many
hotels to stay at!

Interesting comments from "the other side".

My comments from a couple of weeks ago (reposted from another thread)

For the first time ever, both the Men's and Women's National bowling tournaments are being held in the same city (Reno).

Historically, the men's and women's tournaments were always separate events held in various parts of the country. It was rare to have any one city host an event more than once every 20 years. Those days are long gone.

Where bowlers are concerned, Reno is getting a bad rap because of the frequency of return visits. The men have been there every third year since 1995 until 2010, and now we are in a stretch of 4 times in 5 years.

For the women, it has been worse, every third year since 1998, and starting this year, they are in Reno four years in a row.

The last two times the men's tournament has been in Reno (2010 and 2011) the number of spiffs aimed at the bowlers disappeared. Bowlers aren't stupid... we know that Reno is throwing untold amounts of money towards the United States Bowling Congress (and at rehabbing the National Bowling Stadium) because the incoming money of bowlers is a consistent stream for four or five months. Reno needs our money. But bowlers are being pawns in Reno's desperation and the Congress's greed.

With all that said, it is about time that some of the downtown hotels embrace bowling and bowlers with more than $1 off a buffet and a $5 match play coupon.

Going all nostalgic now, I can actually remember 1995 pretty clearly. Every casino had something for bowlers (usually something decent) just for showing proof that you were in town to bowl. The Eldorado-Silver Legacy-Circus Circus each offered a specially created dollar slot token, and when you collected all three (and bought a $7 display case) you would get an even more special 4th token. The Flamingo Hilton gave a package that included a T-shirt, insulated mug (man, I wish I still had that one) and other goodies. Fitzgeralds gave goofy stuff that the kids loved, like a mood card (press your thumb on the spot and see what color it is), dice with sayings, pins, etc. Even the Comstock gave each bowler four Aces for blackjack (could only play one Ace per shoe).

I remember going doing a "coupon run" to collect our free crap... and most of it went to the kids as souvenirs. I remember in 2011, Harrah's gave a (mostly) useless coupon book, and Atlantis did, too.

So just to hear that Harrah's is installing a bowling lane for a promotion... that is very exciting to hear. Hopefully the tide has turned.

Not sure what the rest of the world gets, but if you register as a bowler, you get entries for your play on Fridays and Saturdays during specific times. If your name is called, you get to take one shot on the bowling lane. If you strike, your get a certain amount ($100, I think but don't quote me) of slot play and you get to play a dice game for a chance to win a million dollars. I don't believe that it is a guaranteed payout (as in "Someone will win One Million Dollars!") so I don't know how small of a chance there is to win the prize.

Here is some discussion on Harrah's Reno's Facebook page

Hi everyone!

Yes, this is gonna be fun! Not too bummed about the missing machines, but only because I only play in the Virginia St. casino! It's funny there was a mention of a guaranteed/not guaranteed payout - the dice game everyone is referring to is actually on a craps table, where you have to spell out the word MILLIONS with the dice in this exact sequence: 1,2,3,3,2,4,5,6!

Ok, so the chances of that happening might be as slim as winning the lottery, or even getting that $10,000 cash at the Treasures of the Eldorado game, but hell, that's never stopped anyone before, right? : )

The only things I'm bummed about are that you have to play to earn entries - looks like 25 tier credits for one entry each promo period, and that you must be present to win. But, still looks like fun!

The Siena also has a million dollar promo. You, yes YOU, can win one Million Dollars ($1,000,000) in gold! "The Gold Giveaway Grand Finale is on Sunday, April 28th, where one lucky winner will roll the dice twice for a chance to win $1,000,000 in solid gold." - from their website. Although they don't mention the rules on their site, the contestant must roll two dice two times and get a total of four ones to be the big winner.

So the odds of rolling a TWO is 36:1. Odds of rolling a two TWICE in two rolls would be 36x36 or 1300 : 1. If they pick ONE person out of 200, then odds are about 250,000 :1. If HALF of the people standing around have ten entry tickets in the drum... 1.25 million:1 .

But the odds of an annoying MC hyping the pick on the PA WAY too loud and sounding like fingernails on a blackboard are a SURE bet.

I have experienced the drawings at the Siena and in my opinion, they attract the worst collection of NON players ever. Ask the cocktail waitresses how demanding the drawing contest patrons are, and how long they stay when the drawings end.
