Hi all, Great site.Really enjoy reading all the trip reports. We have a trip planned from west coast of Oregon to Reno, will be only our second trip.First trip really didnt gamble much and just checked out the town. We have a pet stay room booked at harrahs (have 2 small mutts)and really dont want to drive much because will only be in town for 4 days. Was looking for some advice and suggestions for where to lose money the slowest. Wife is mainly slots at very low levels. I play BJ,craps, VP and would like to try UTH if there are any casinos that offer the game. We are both low rollers and have no comps or freebies to speak of .Any help will be appreciated. Wynn

Just travel right next door, to the Cal-Neva; it's low-roller heaven, and even a cheapskate like me can stretch a tiny gambling budget for hours.

Yes, it has its own unique "character", but you just can't find better gaming in the downtown area. 3-dollar blackjack is generally plentiful, though they did start introducing "Super Sucker Single Deck", which you should steer away from - still, they usually have open tables, with decent rules.

Enjoy!

thanks for reply. The more I hear about Cal Neva the more it sounds like our kind of place being from smal rural area and dont like crowds to much.

I can never be certain how well this recommendation will be received - people who respond positively to "The Strip" in Vegas and such often turn their noses up at the Cal-Neva - but I'm with you; I don't much care for giant crowds, especially at a Blackjack table! And who needs volcanoes and tigers if it means the table minimums are fifteen bucks, and a bottom-shelf drink is ten?!

Cal-Neva's got a little hole-in-the-wall feel to it, but it's an impressive facility, and there's plenty of choices for gaming.

I've not eaten there, but the top-deck restaurant is supposed to have very good deals, and there's even a greasy snack pit on the ground floor, with affordable munchies that are just perfect for the wee hours, especially after slogging down beer for a couple of hours.

Give it a whirl, and make sure to post a thorough trip report when you get back.

We went to Reno on Sun. to pick up a veh I had bought at auction on sat.
stayed at harrahs, bought my usual keno tickets at Eldo, harrahs, and
cal neva, and Played Let it ride for a couple hrs at neva and left 200$ up
for the night. Next am we went to neva for breakfast and I checked my
keno ticket before we ate, I hit it twice on the same 25 gamer ticket for 400$, that made for even a better breakfast! Go Neva!

I'm chiming in to back up Stan's enshrining of the Cal Neva. And I've eaten there many, many times. In the 80's and thru the 90's they treated us Canucks like we were made of gold. Lots of two for one meals and free drink coupons. My wife and I used to get 2 prime rib dinners (with salad bar, veggies, baked potato, and all the trimmings) for $5... Yeah that was it- 5 bucks - dinner for two! Lots of money left over for their great video poker and slots. And we had a hoot playing those $2 tables (as Stan says they're now $3). The Cal Neva is just a classic great gambling joint!

Thanks for replies all,Been to Vegas just once and thought most of the areas around the strip were dirty and not a place I wanted to return to. Does anyone kno? if Cal Neva still has Bingo,I thought I read somewhere they had bingo on Weds. I will try to do a trip report if I can figure out how to put spaces between sentences to break it up a little, cant remember how to do that.

Don't worry about syntax, grammar, punctuation, or any of that stuff when writing a trip report - the best ones have that stream-of-consciousness quality; no fancy-shmancy formatting for a buncha prigs - just let it all out!

Definitely sign up for players club cards. They sometimes will get you instant discounts at gift shops and restaurants etc. Who knows you might just rack up enough points for a steak dinner or a comped room. I have a gold card at the Eldorado (just one step up from the basic level) and I went more than a year without using it and when I finally did - the points were still there and it was still gold. Being over 55, that card gets me a good discount at the buffet too. The Cal Neva often has some good promotions related to their club cards.

I don't know if this offer is still running but the Siena was offering to match any other casino's higher level card with their own when you sign up with them. That has nearly instantaneous rewards in the restaurants.

I went over the hill fri. for harrahs Keno tourn. They just opened hwy.4
and 108, so went over 4 and came home on 108. Great drive.
Hit my #s in the tourn. once and got my $ back and hit them again at
eldo to pay for the trip. Had breakfast at neva of course. Can't beat
that. Took in the 4 Tenors at Harrahs, pretty good show.
Went over to their bowling lane, and the ladys were the only ones
bowling. but it was worth watching!!
