The musical lineup for Hot August Nights is pretty well set, with the focus as usual on '50's & '60's classic rock. Headliners include Paul Revere and the Raiders, one of the Righteous Brothers and tributes to Tina Turner, Chicago and other bands of the era.

I know it's HON's theme and I go back to the era of these bands myself, but I still think it's time for HON to update things a little bit. Not saying they should get Justin Bieber or Beyonce, but there should be room for some music from more recent times. Pretty soon all those "classics" won't be touring anymore and then they'll have to change.

Here's the schedule:

Well, that's why they're sticking with the old acts - because they still can!

Yes, they should probably shift the focus downstream a few years; how about:

-Vanilla fudge
-Hot tuna
-Procol Harum
-Grand Funk Railroad
-Foghat
-Badfinger

We can call it "The best of the dollar bins lineup"

Peter Noone will not be there this year. He's been a fixture there for over 20+ years. Though, he'll be at the South Point in LV on August 3-4. I was very surprised to see that he won't be there and I'm one of the volunteers.

It's getting harder to book music acts to match the cars.

Cars from the 50's get rebuilt all the time. But the musicians from the 60's are dying off and really slowing down in their 70's.

Easier to slap a new oil pump in a '57 Chev than a third heart bypass.

Paul Revere & the Raiders without Mark Linsay is just plain old Paul Revere.

JD is right about booking music to match the cars, that has been HON's theme so far. What I'm saying is it's time to book music to match the car owners. Most of them match the vintage of the cars, but as time goes on more and more are coming from a younger generation. And that's a good thing because it will keep HON going on into the future.

Last year my wife and I saw the Vogues at a Casino in NW Washington. They were pretty entertaining but there was talk of another long time member of the band retiring. Remember "Five O'Clock World"? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQ9Nm_c3GVY

And Herb Alpert (without his Tijuana Brass) still tours and has been known to play some of his old 60's stuff like Tijuana Taxi http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPalYwLyEvw Man, people sure had a lot of energy back in the sixties! How did they do it with our Red Bull and 5 hour energy drinks?

"We don't need no stinking energy drinks. We have cocaine."

The following 60's rockers (muscle car era) are available CHEAP:

Janis Joplin
Jimi Hendricks
Jim Morrison
Keith Moon
James Brown
Marvin Gaye
The Mamas & The Papas

Gotta be a bunch more that are no longer available... and some are better off staying in memory. When I see current pictures (like Grace Slick) , I get feeling OLD, and LUCKY.
