I have a couple questions for anyone who may have passed through Klamath Falls on the way to Reno. ( JD maybe?). Have you ever stopped by the Kla-Mo-Ya casino in Chilequin(sp?) ? If so how was it? What kind of table games are offered and any info you might want to share. Also how far is Reno from k falls? We will be visiting sister in law some time in June and wanted to escape to the local tribal casino but got to thinking Reno isn't to much farther is it ? Going to get lunch honey see ya in ten hrs or so ,hehe. Thanks Wynn. |

I have to be Vewwwy Vewwy careful so I don't get accused of exaggerating times or distances by some people that think I'm lying.
I always considered K Falls to be half way between Portland & Reno. (Kla Moy Ya is about 20 -25 miles North of the TOWNE PUMP gas station where I usually fill up in K Falls. Google says I-5 South to Hwy 58 to K Falls is 275 miles (more or less).
THEN, Siena Reno via Alturas/Ravendale/Litchfield/Standish, A-3 is ABOUT 266 more for about 540.
BUT Siena Reno via Eagle Lake/Susanville is ABOUT 17 less... call it 523.
Either way, an average of 60 mph is easy (except in winter) so call it 9 hours of driving (if you don't check bags, wait for incoming aircraft, wait for a fresh crew, clear security, don't get routed thru SFO and don't have to wait for a shuttle) but any stops, Winnebagos, log trucks or construction will kill the average.
Alturas route is sometimes faster, sometimes not but if you are into old west history and have time, the museum at South end of Alturas is great for old west history. This route is straighter, easier passing, lower elevation, but 17 miles further. Mid summer weekday, my record is 9 hours overall TOTAL (with one, seven minute fuel only stop) my house to Red Dog Saloon (another 25 miles beyond Siena) in VC in 9 hours TOTAL. (My GPS had evidence of excessive max speed on two occasions) . Winter can also kill your average speed.
YES, I have stopped at KLA MOY YA and it does LOOK like a casino, but does not FEEL like one. I have only stopped there once. On the way down, I'm focused on my ETA check in time in Reno... and on the way back, I've had enough of casinos and I'm fresh from a K Falls fuel stop.

Thanks for all the information JD,very useful. I was a bit disapointed in the KlaMoYa website not much info there, like alot of the tribal casinos in Oregon their websites leave alot to be desired. So about 4 and a half hours from Reno , hmmm ,very tempting.. BTW I gota agree with you on the flying BS, lots easier to pull over in a car if you see something interesting.Take care and thanks again. |
