Since the board's been a little too quite lately, I thought I'd take a stab at another Lily style contest. This one's in Carson city though.....any one know who this represents and where it is?

I feel shame in not knowing that off the top of my head.
I looked recently at some test of general knowledge from the early 20th century, and it was unbelievable how much finely detailed knowledge was required of our youngsters these days - are we really to say that they are better off nowadays dispensing with such info?
Well, back to the contest. I'd make a lame, Paul Revere-style guess, except that I expect to see a tricorner hat - but that qualification could well be laughably oblivious.
And of course, it could be a more local-type legend, such as Mr. Comstock himself...or whoever presided over the Silver boom, or what have you...
Gotta get down to Carson City more often, and not just for the low-minimum Blackjack.... |

That is one ugly looking guy. Where is his hat? Since this is Carson City, I will guess that it is Kit Carson. ?? |

So according to the plaque, he was born in 1843, and lived until 1844?
Boy, that's a lot of accomplishments to pack into one year...
Nice Job, Swede! |

I won? Well, how about that. I think I will pass on the T-shirt and you can turn it over to someone more deserving. I have a collection on casino T-shirts that will match up with anyone.
Kit Carson was certainly an interesting person. Not only was Carson City named after him, but so was Hwy 88- Carson Pass, the Carson River and the Carson Valley. I am sure there are many more.
Good catch on the plaque 1843-44. I am not sure what that means, but he was born December 24, 1809 and died May 23, 1868. |

No Stan, he actually lived longer than that. But I think he rested in that position for about a year. Well deserved too, me thinks.
OK, CaSwede. The tee shirt will reside here until at least the next of our Show-Case-Show-Downs ... er, well, obscure Reno related photo quizzes. |

Well, that's my error, for assuming we were looking at a tomb. Clearly, this is from an era where monuments were erected (quiet, butt-head!) to honor time spent in a high-level appointment of some kind.
But Jeez, Dave, you seem to be having trouble giving away that T-shirt! Not that I'm after it; I'm not a T-shirt kind of guy, as you can see from my picture...
Still, great addition to our legendary contests! Who says we don't have meaningful discussions of heady cultural lore, in addition to our non-stop encomiums in praise of liquor-fueled bacchanaliae??!! |

If that tee shirt had emotions it would be feeling unwanted and mighty depressed. But there's always the next contest - coming your way soon - same RENO website, same RENO time!!! ? |
