Here's how it looked on Thursday in Reno from the fire 150 miles away.

Hopefully no one at Shooters got a cough.

I saw that photo on the national news. It was captioned as "Downtown Reno" but it looks like it was taken from the Federal Courthouse, looking south down Virginia Street toward the Peppermill and Atlantis. The smoke was so thick you couldn't see the mountains from the Atlantis. It's still smoky today, but much better than before.

This morning at 6 am, the sun rose as the brightest, red ball in the East. It looked like something from a Sci-Fi flick.

Reporting from the 27th floor of GSR, this is JD, KOLO TV, reporting.

Although now largely contained, there has been another fire west of Lake Tahoe called the "American Fire". Perhaps it has been contributing to the visibility issues in Reno. Or maybe it's all the smokin' avatars. http://www.tahoedailytribune.com/news/7830558-113/fire-smoke-sunday-tahoe

That's some rough air, there - better get inside to a casino!

Ah, that's much better; nothing in here but a non-stop cloud of cigarette smoke!

Don't know if it's me or a technical glitch, but a couple of times lately my posts have posted double.

Cough! Hack! Sneeze! Wheeze! It's been terrible here - normally full-bore sun and cloudless skies turning everything all overcast. Fortunately, it's starting to clear up. I will say that it's put an awesome perspective on the sunrises and sunsets though - hey, every cloud has a silver, smoky lining, right?

I kid you not, it was so bad in the later part of last week that the interior 4th floor of Harrah's East Tower smelled like a hickory chip!

Seriously folks, say a prayer for all those involved with the fire. Several of my friends in Mammoth had to head south to LA because they just couldn't deal with inhaling.

Dave, take off those bifocals, and everything should be fine.

You must be doing something out of protocol, Dave. This board never makes double posts.

I probably clicked on "Submit" when I meant to just "Preview" - not sure. That "Preview" button can save a lot of embarressment - like when I mispelled a word when posting about yanking on a clock. 'Nuf said!
