No, not the Reno Cal Neva, but the Lake Tahoe Cal Neva. I heard from two employees that the Cal Neva will close Sept. 10 and remain closed for at least a year. They are doing major renovations....or so they say.
Yesterday I was finally able to take the secret tunnel tour of the Cal Neva. It is very interesting to think of all the history under ownership of Frank Sinatra.
Sorry if my story heading shook up some of those Cal Neva (Reno) fans. |

CaSwede, at the request of stan_allen, your salary has been reduced to $240,006.74 per year. Since this is such a substantial cut, it may be appealed. You're trying to give all of us heart failure. |

Although I now see from my post, that I was technically wrong - he gave me a heart attack on a *Thursday* afternoon - guess it was just wishful thinking on my part.
Still, I hope the salary reduction gives you an opportunity to ponder the consequences of your actions! |

Careful with those subject lines! Whew!
Actually the last time I was at the Tahoe Cal Neva it looked like it was badly in need on a renovation. Of course our Cal Neva in Reno would never let something like get in the way of normal operations. |

Groggy morning, just sitting to catch up...WTH? Thanks for the "WAKE UP" headline.
My 40th birthday was spent at Tahoe Cal-Neva as I"m a HUGE Sinatra fan. We had the place to ourselves. Sad and fun.
Major renovations? We'll see. |

Why don't Frankie's kids spend some of their inheritance on the
place, and fix it up right! Ya can't loose with the scenery that place
has! |

The subject line is known in the trade as a "teaser" I learned that trick reading the National Enquirer. They will put a teaser on the front cover such as -- President visited by an alien in the White House! Story on page 34-- So you buy the magazine to read about the alien at the white house. The story is true. The president they were talking about is the president of the We like Aliens- South Arkansas division. The alien did visit him at his house that happened to be painted white. This all happened after he consumed several bottles of Mad Dog 20-20 grape flavored. The story works because people buy the magazine.
I will accept the salary reduction without an appeal. By the way, my last paycheck that was drawn on the 3rd Republic Bank of Nigeria bounced. Please send me another one. |

spdmrcht - Frank Sinatra sold the Cal Neva at least 50 years ago and the Sinatra family has had nothing to do with the place ever since. There have been at least four different owners since the Sinatra era and I think all of them have lost huge sums of money on operations. Maybe the new guys have a winning formula?? |

For all the trash-talk, I do still have a soft spot for that wacky property, maybe just 'cuz North Shore Tahoe is the Reno to South Tahoe's Vegas.
That tiny little pocket of casinos with its highway-pedestrian crossing really has the old school charm - so I do hope they can salvage something out of that version of "Cal-Neva". |

A quiet little place like the Cal Neva at Tahoe indeed has it's charm, but I wonder if that charm can attract enough business, nowadays, to make it viable. It's got a location beyond compare - so perhaps the only way to go would be a big shiny resort - a la Las Vegas. I'm not sure if this could be done in a way that wouldn't change the character of the area significantly, but I think it would attract some tourists. |

Only the Cal Neva could produce a graphic this heinous:
Never close Cal Neva! |
