Hi everyone, Merry Christmas Eve, and hope all is well!

Just came across this link on the RGJ site:

http://www.rgj.com/article/20131223/NEWS1801/312230023/-Full-speed-ahead-downtown-Reno-s-Virginian?sf20974467=1

Man, how awesome it would have been to see the old Virginian light up for just a few solitary minutes. I wonder what they've got in store for it? "The Lofts At Cal Neva", perhaps? Cool

Good luck to Mr. Siegel! Those were heady days back when the two properties combined to become the Cal Neva Virginian. I enjoyed playing there, but it was always a bit too quiet. Hope that incredible sign is preserved - it must consume a lot of electricity. And that would be a lot of LEDs to buy to make it more efficient.
So now there's potential to see something happening at the Fitz, the Flamingo, and the Virginian. Not bad! To quote this site's old name " Go Reno!"

The rooms were small by today's standards. I'm guessing it was probably in the early 1980s I stayed on the top floor, last room down the hall to the West, facing North.

It looked straight down on the Arch. Best view room in town ! MUCH better than my earlier room at The Mapes. But the Mapes story will cost three drinks but guaranteed to be worth it.

'Course the sign's best when it's lit up, but I keep missing my chance. It's so large I had to "sew" three pics from my Feb 2012 trip together.

Would love to hear your Mapes story J.D. I'll even pay for the drinks.
