The BC lottery corporation runs a Keno game round the clock. It's pay-outs are poor compared to Reno's casinos and the minimum bet is now $2. I know that if you hit 5 out of 5 in Reno you get around $800 on a $1 bet. Here you get $500 per $1 bet. Boo on government run gambling! But here's a table of the odds of hitting all or less than all of your numbers.

Incidentally I knew a fellow that hit 5 out of 5 twice on one trip at the Sundowner! |

BC your right, those payouts are garbage! Also the odds they have don't
jive any where close with my results in Reno. Hopefully you don't
gamble up there! 5 twice is Great, I've hit 4 twice on the same ticket
and 4 times in 2 days. That's the Difference that 1 #. can play. Also
the payouts between a straight ticket and a special or catch all is
a bunch of $$. Thanks for the Info. |

Here's a keno odds and payout breakdown from the gambling info site "Wizard of Odds", http://wizardofodds.com/games/keno/. It's their analysis of the Station Casinos of Las Vegas, Keno payout tables. They too seem pretty down on poor old Keno. I don't want to discourage you, spdmrcht, in fact what ever your doing, keep it up! I know all of us here wish you continued good luck! |

I play a Keno card from time to time too.
I know if I play a 21 game, one dollar/game card (maybe a four or five spot) I'm likely to only lose $ 10...and it will take an hour and a half to do so. But when I stop to check that card in the pit, at a bar, or anywhere near a boss....I get WAY more freebies than $ 10.
And ONCE in a while a chicken dinner!
Playing two games at once establishes you as someone the casino really does NOT want to leave the property. Well, at least that used to be the case. |

at Cal Neva I play a 4 spot 25 gamer they call it, and it pays 200 instead
of the 180 of the special ticket, plus you get 2 drink tickets good any
where in the joint plus the cocktail gal comes around with free ones
if your setting watching the game which I can't do. I get bored so
need to be doing something else. so I go to the eldo and buy a
4 spot extreme 21 game ticket which pays 254 and is the best
I've found so far in Reno. they will give you one drink ticket if
you ask. Keno is by far the cheapest game there is to play, you
can even play 10 cent keno and like you said it takes a couple
hrs to play 21 games with free drinks delivered to your chair.
More bang for your buck. |

Am I missing something? It looks like the bet odds are to go with (according to the wizard of odds site) is just 1 number, which has a 75% return. It sounds like it may be fun to buy a 25 game ticket ($25) at Cal Neva, drink free for an hour and 1/2, and get back an average of $18.75 back. Maybe I am just too cheap to think this way. |

I have a couple of reasons for playing keno. And like the wizard says, none of them involve an analysis of the true odds.
Maybe it's just my little way to try to hold onto the "Old Reno" like playing a coin in/coin out machine when I can find one. (I really miss that dollar coin dropping sound too)
Or maybe I feel sorry for the Keno runners that usually end up with my $ 1 wins.
But my FAVORITE is to be playing craps (well, if it's slow & maybe if I'm the only one at the table).
When the pit boss is nearby, I STOP. Hold up my 21 game card....look at the board...and make a disproportional deal out of checking my numbers...."DAMN, I missed the results of two races !"
Boss will ask if I want a Keno runner which I turn down when I explain I still have 6,7 or 8 races to go. Besides, the boss has no idea the denomination or duration of my card.
Much later, I'll ask the same boss about the prime Rib "special" across the street where I, "have a BOGO coupon..."
No way will he let me go without a better offer. How else are you going to get even with those 6/5 BJ payouts?
Just let me know if I have to quit using that line.

That's how it looks to me too, Mustangmike. Playing that one spot won't fuel any fantasies of extreme wealth, but the odds are you won't loose too much.
Back in 1985, all the Casinos employed staff that used to use those little brushes and ink to issue you the actual keno ticket. Some of the Keno "writers" we're highly skilled at both writing and interpreting complicated way-tickets. True to form, the CalNeva was the last to change over to the computerized tickets. Something was definitely lost there.
A bit of a foggy memory but I can remember walking into the CalNeva and there were Keno counters all over the place. Lots of speciality games including a 22 ball game. The popularity of the game seems to have fallen off a lot since then. |

BC that does bring back the old days, I remember the 22 game ticket
but that was before I played the game, The keno at cal neva isn't
a total computer game they still use the wheel to pick up the balls.
as opposed to some games that don't use the balls at all. Which to
me is highly questionable?? I would love to have that 22 game back
now!! |
