This summer there will be weekend bus service from Reno to Sand Harbor State Park, for those who want to go there but don't want the hassle of driving and finding a place to park. Here are the details from RGJ:
Beginning May 23 and lasting through Labor Day, the RTC will begin operating weekend buses linking Reno to Lake Tahoe’s Sand Harbor State Park.
A bus will depart Meadowood Mall at 8 a.m., stop at the Summit Mall and arrive at Sand Harbor at 9:30 a.m. Service would continue with a bus every three hours until the last departure from Sand Harbor at 6:30 p.m. One-way fares will be $5 for adults and $2.50 for youths, seniors and the disabled. |

Sand Harbor is one of the most beautiful (if not the most) spots at Lake Tahoe. It is located near the Mt. Rose Hwy into Lake Tahoe. It has become an almost too popular place to visit and the visitors have become out of control. The parking lot would fill less than 15 minutes after the park opened. Many times I would drive by this area with the parking lot full and many- many cars parked along the road parked (illegally). People walking across the hwy with kids crossing became a serious and dangerous situation. Last summer they opened a shuttle bus system in Incline Village and this really helped.
This is a great addition to people wanting to visit Sand Harbor. |

Ah, now that you say that, I remember seeing all the parked cars and
people that were jay walking, when we took the Mt. Rose Rd. to Tahoe
a while back. Thanks for the Info. |
