|
|
It has been awhile since I have seen a trip report, so I will step up. On Tuesday evening I looked at my calendar for Wednesday and Thursday and found out I was free. I checked my offers and found I had free rooms at the Atlantis and at the Peppermill I also had free rooms + $50 in free play and an additional $20 for my birthday month. I called and made a reservation for Wed at the Atlantis and Thursday night at the Peppermill.
I was able to get away late morning and drove up to Reno. As I was driving through downtown Sacramento all traffic came to a quick halt. I figured it had to be an accident, but when we started moving again I looked over on the shoulder to see a CHP motorcycle officer petting a small white Poodle. That was one lucky dog that did not get squashed on the freeway.
I got to the Gold Ranch and wanted to stop to stretch my legs and get a cold drink. I pulled out two slot cards, but the bartender told me both of those were out of date and I needed a new one. One of my cards was three owners ago I guess. Anyway I now have a party card....whoopee. I got some ice water and played some nickel triple pay deuces and hit 4 deuces for $50. I cashed out $41 ahead. I saw some signs for a good looking cheeseburger for $4.99 and I had not had lunch (2:30PM), so I ordered it at the coffee shop. It was great. Two quarter pound pieces of hamburger, double cheese, tomatoes, pickles, lettuce, mayo on the side and fries. I almost ate it all...burp. Try to match that McDonalds!
I got my room at the Atlantis and it was a very nice updated room. I swiped my card and found they gave me $25 in free play that I did not know I had. I found a bank of good paytable vp games near the waterfall with four way progressives. My quick math told me that some of the games were 100% plus. It was hard to get a seat and I can see why. Anyway, I ended up ahead $200 for my stay at the Atlantis. I was not very hungry due to the huge cheeseburger, so I ordered up a small sushi at the oyster bar on the overhead playing area. It was very good for under $7.
On Thursday morning on my way to the Peppermill, I thought I would fill up my gas tank. I had filled it up as I left town on Wednesday. I have a big 4WD truck that gets terrible gas mileage. It took $54 to fill it back up! I live just a little over 200 miles away....so Yikes! I need to get a more economical vehicle to drive to Reno in good weather.
I checked into the Peppermill and played all afternoon and evening. They were having a Karate tournament and the Tuscany area was full of kids. The pool was also full of kids. However, the main casino was not so crowded. I had good luck on the video poker and hit two royal flushes...one was dealt. I totally forgot about eating, but did have another sub $7 sushi plate at the Oceano bar. I did get the free appetizers and a few handfuls of the almonds was good enough for me.
I never did have a real meal in Reno. I bring some breakfast bars and have one of those in the morning, but when I take a solo trip I don't eat much.
I drove home a different route through Carson City, South Lake Tahoe and then Hwy 88 to Jackson. It is such a much more scenic drive. As I was driving through Carson City I remembered that I had free play at both the Nugget and Casino Fandango, but I did not stop. Gambling for two days was enough and I was gambled out. When I got home I counted out $1950 more than when I left. That included tips, etc. but not gas. A great trip for sure.

Thanks for the awesome report, Swede. Two royals in one day and all that free play can't be beat. I love to read reports about someone winning a load of money. That hamburger sounds pretty tempting, too. |

That's what I would call a Great trip. We always use hwy 88 or 4, much
less traffic. We stop for breakfast at CVI. Were going over on the
23rd -27th to Harrahs for 3 slot tourn an a Keno tourn. |

Awesome report, and congrats on leaving UP! The poodle incident sounds almost as interesting as when that 18 wheeler full of ketchup crashed on the highway last year (without any fries around...)

Swede,
You're right, things have been pretty slow around here lately. Thanks for livening things up. And congrats on your wins. |

Wow, take that Peppermill! Royals do seem to come in bunches and I had my bunch some years ago. But, congratulations to you! That's a nice tidy profit. And yes, thanks for livening up the trip report section of the board. |

Thanks for the nice responses. Winning trips do not come often enough. I had not been to Reno in almost a year. I am not sure why my trips to Reno have slowed down, but I have been getting very good offers from Lake Tahoe and Carson City area casinos. In addition, it is about 60 miles closer for me to drive to South Lake Tahoe.
It will be interesting to see if the Peppermill will be mad at me taking some of their money. About 6-7 years ago I won over $5,000 in one day and my offers for free play and rooms stopped cold.
I got a new slot card and found they demoted me to the lowest level. I have been at gold level for at least 6 years. In addition they charged me that dreaded -resort fee-. This is a first for me but the Atlantis waived their resort fee. Well, I got revenge at the Peppermilll..... that will teach them.
OK- It is now time for someone else to have a winning trip. Next. |

That sounds like just what the doctor ordered.
I remember spending some pleasant late-night hours at that waterfall area in the Atlantis; it must have good feng shui or something.
Gold Ranch? Very interesting; I played at a place called "Gold Coast" in some hick town called "Las Vegas" not long ago, and had a profitable session - maybe there's something to those little old places...
Thanks for reporting; excellent stuff, as always! |

"When your hot, your hot" - right? That is what I was thinking, so I just returned from a two night stay in the Carson City area. So how did the gambling go? "When your not, your not" It was terrible. I should have stayed home.
Such is gambling. |

Update on the Peppermill. Just as I thought - my offers from the Peppermill have stopped. I was receiving about 5 offers a week from the Peppermill prior to my trip. I have not received a single piece of mail from them in the last 30 days.
They don't love me anymore |

Really? I always thought that conventional wisdom was to get you back in the casino to win the $ back. Over time, they get it back….. |

It's just sour grapes - soon, they'll be practically begging you to grace their floors again...
So give in to the urge, and high-tail it back there! |

I like Stan's perspective on your lack of offers from the Peppermill. Makes sense too - they're sulking over their losses. Kinda like we do after a day when you can't buy a four of a kind. They'll soon remember the deck is stacked in their favour and you'll find your mailbox overflowing with irresistible offers. |

It's the old, "Ya, but what have you done for us LATELY?" syndrome.
Everyone here knows how much I've pimped for the Siena, but I have received NO offers from them in well over a year.
They can't fire me. I QUIT!
Well they DO have the best parking lot for the bus. |
