When was your best trip to Reno might it when you won the most or went with a group of friends. Maybe it might have been a wedding or honeymoon.
There should be some interesting stories. |

But hey, that gives me a goal.... |

VAPA great topic!
It would be impossble for me to pick just one favorite after SO MANY great trips to Reno (Super Bowl weekends, Kentucky Derby weekends, Eldorado Brews, Blues and BBQ fest, etc...) but two trips do kind of jump out over the rest.
#1 Late summer 1996.
My girlfriend (wife now) and I were making one of our first trips together and really enjoyed all that Reno had to offer back in those days. We used to drive in on Friday and would stay two nights. Saturdays always involved starting at Circus Circus and walking down to Cal Neva hitting each and every casino in between (including Comstock). We had made our way back to Eldorado (one of maybe two times we stayed there) and were playing quarter VP. We had a "system" that we would play side by side. When one of us hit a 4oak, we would both cash out. It usually was pretty successful. We were getting ready to go eat so we were ready to go. She hit a 4oak and i had 130 credits left. I said "I'm going to play to 120 credits". I pushed MAX credits and was dealt a ROYAL! It was my first one and it was for a healthy $1,439.20. It took awhile for paperwork and $$$ so in the meantime I found the nearest bar. I bought a bunch of dinks for people I didnt know, tipped the bartender and went and got the $$$. We went and had steak and lobster tail for dinner to celebrate. They say you always remember your first.
#2 Super Bowl XXXVII January 2003
This was probably our 4th year of going to Reno for the Super Bowl. We had come a long way from watching the game in our room with friends at Circus Circus (I think it was $19) with a cooler of beer and a bottle of Patron to being an invited guest to the Super Bowl party at Circus Circus (free food, drinks and prizes). We didnt go to Reno until late in the afternoon on Saturday. We made plans to go out partying and drinking that night so we wouldnt be tempted to spend a bunch of $$$ gambling because I planned on making my biggest sorts bet to date on the game the next day. I woke up the next day and was preparing to financially declare my love for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I bet Tampa +4 (point spread), money line (straight up) and got great odds for playing them -3. Those three bets plus a couple of prop bets yielded a tidy profit! We watched the game at the party with a crowd that was probably 90% Raiders fans so we were quiet for most of the game (safety concerns lol). Overall it was a great time!
Honorable mention goes to a "football weekend" in 2010 (I think lol) when I met up with some friends for a 4 day/3night football and drinking fest. I would give you details but don't have many to share...

Let me guess ... it's because you don't want your wife to see the details? |

It's actually nothing like that. I am lucky nothing negative happened over the course of those few days. We literally drank from the time my plane arrived on Fri morning until 4:00am then got 3-4 hours sleep and did it again on Saturday. I was in such bad shape on Sunday that I was miserable until I left on Monday morning. GREAT time though!!! |

It would not be gentlemanly for me to tell the story of MY BEST RENO TRIP.
However if you can find Neil, the bartender at Peppermill's Cube Bar ask HIM to tell you the story from way back when dinosaurs roamed the earth.
It's from the days when he opened the main bar in the morning at the Comstock and slip him a $ 2 bill to let him know it's ok. THEN you can post my story here. |

Oh, I'm not hard on bartenders. And Neil is still a pal. But the story would be more credible if it came from HIM and not me. And it IS a good story. He asks me about my Comstock " guests" every time I see him. And that was from a trip over twenty years ago. But being the discrete bartender he is, he would be reluctant to repeat the story to just any stranger. Tell him I give him permission....and deuce him to prove you know me. |
