A recent trip report had some good things to say about a visit to the Sands Regency. Now, today's news is reporting that the property has been acquired by Jacobs Entertainment, along with the rest of the Gold Dust West (they already owned a share of it) and all the West 4th Street frontage between the two properties. There are no plans for any major immediate changes, just small improvements like getting rid of the pool parties and converting the open areas into green space or events venues. The transfer still needs approval by the gaming control board but the new owner has been approved for other casinos in Reno and Las Vegas so that should not be a problem.
Over the next ten years or so, however, the developer plans to improve the casinos and convert the rest of the area into urban residential and entertainment properties. Another developer has similar urban infill plans for the same stretch across the train trench and South to 2nd Street, an immense project IF it all comes into being. Time will tell. |

Thanks for the info on the Sands, Remano. For a long time I've thought that the Sands may be the next casino-hotel to bite the dust. I'll be very glad to be proven wrong. One might think that their slightly out of the way location would be working against them. Then again, I think they do a fairly good job of promoting their property as they seem to attract various groups, card tournaments etc.
Best of luck to the new owners - I don't think Terrible's did the Sands any great favors.
I hope the new owners get rid of that God awful two tone, industrial theme paint job. https://goo.gl/maps/KHC7QjLYfNC2
Here's a pic I took a long time back (probably from the Colonial). I think it looked a lot better back then.
