RGJ reported this morning that Station Casinos has acquired the unrestricted gaming license formerly held by the Jockey Club, the old sports book operation that was condemned to make way for the train trench. They are said to have no current plans for its use. It just came up for sale at a good price so Stations decided to buy it to keep future options open. The advantage of the license is that it allows operation of a free standing casino without hotel rooms. The previous owners had tried to get something built at several different locations but got shot down each time by opposition from owners and other casinos.
On the Mt. Rose Station front, the article reported that the City Council had approved a zoning variation that would allow the hotel towers to exceed existing height limitations. The neighborhood opposition claims that they will appeal that decision, so construction is still on hold. |
