|

Leaving this week for our first visit to Reno. Looks like I will have to do a little work while there. Can anyone suggest a free wi-fi spot?
Looking forward to the trip and will write a first timers report when I get back.
Thanks

If there isn't anything available at your hotel, you might try Electronic Espresso at 134 West Second Street, about two blocks west of Virginia Street. I don't have any personal experience with them but they just recently opened and got a pretty good write up in the Gazette Journal a while back. You can get more info here:

Don't forget the trip report on your return!! |

There is an Apple Store in the Summit Sierra shopping mall (way south on Virginia). They have wireless and you can usually sit outside the store and access it. I believe it is 802.11G, but might be N.
Hope this helps,

Not to mention uptown, downtown, and also the networks on the mountains for the snowboarders.
Plus, there's the municipal city-wide wireless, the Federal Give-every-state-wireless program, the Reno Public Interest Group (RPIG) network, which is available freely throughout the casinos in an attempt to draw gamblers away from their addictions and put their intellectual skills to work, as well as numerous private-sector financed projects aimed at giving everyone in the Reno/Sparks area broadband access.
In fact, the only place in Reno where you actually CAN'T get a wireless connection is at John's house, for some reason.
Folks, I'm kidding, of course - there are no such networks in Reno. Sorry to waste valuable board space. |

Although I haven't tried it, the Sierra Spirit (the free downtown-loop bus) advertises free wireless on their buses.
And Stan, you can get wireless at my place now, since the parrots got to my computer and chewed all the wires to shreds. |

For not being very "computery", you sure know where all the Wi-Fi is located.

It's my husband who's the computer nerd. He has a wireless PDA, so we're always driving around looking for free WIFI spots...LOL.
Ryder, Nu Yalk has awesome pizza. Maybe your host will treat you to lunch there one day...LOL. |

I also heartily endorse Nu Yalk Pizza's product and/or service.
But seriously, as a former New Yorker, I can tell you that "Nu Yalk" is as close as you're gonna get to the real thing in this area. |

Rayz,
I just got back and found out that the entire Reno/Tahoe airport is a free WiFi spot. Unfortunately, I don't have a laptop, but did go down to Electronic Espresso that Remano spoke of, it's great, and cheap!

Gawd whatever you do, if you have a major project, don't try to get it done using the WiFi at the Reno airport. I was there yesterday and trying using it. Slower than dialup (if that's possible)! |
