Fitz sent me a birthday offer of two free nights, free food and beverage and good on a few selected weekends. Unbelievably, the brewfest weekend.
We're spending the 4th in Spokane, and coming home CA via Reno. Not that it's on the way, but this is one segue that we look forward to. Last year, on the eve of the Spokane departure, R's brother sullenly asked why we didn't include him on this trip. Not too late! I told him, there's room in the car, and you can buy a walk-up ticket at Southwest for around $150 to get back home. Sold!
We trusted a map to get to Reno, big mistake. We went down through Idaho, visiting every podunk town NOT ON THE MAP, and slid into Reno 14 hours later. Surprisingly, the road trip was still fun. My daughter was with us on this one, and we giggled, sung, shared Reno stories and really had a good time getting there.
Good thing, as R's brother made this 14 hour trip in order to spend the next day at the brewfest, only to fly home the following morning. Totally worth it, he said.
We drove home from Spokane at Christmas, of course hitting Reno on the way (I really wish it were actually "on the way"- so as not to feel like I'm making up excuses when explaining why we're going yet again). This time, we stayed on the interstate, had to, it was December! What a difference, I think we made it in 12 hours, through slick conditions.
So, this trip, we'll stick to the interstates. My sis will be with us for the whole thing, with daughter and two newbies joining us in Reno Friday night. Should be good times all 'round. |

Hope you have a great time at the brew fest in July at the Fitz.
Win lots of money and let me know how all the free food and drinks go. We have that same offer which is good through August but I havent made any reservations yet. Will look forward to your trip report. Barb |

We had a great experience at the Brew Fest last year when we came upon the Alaskan Brewery booth on Sunday afternoon. The staff was clearly under the influence of their own product and determined not to bring any of it home at the end of the weekend. So, whereas most of the merchants would sell you a miserly half glass sampler of beer for the standard token, the Alaskan folks for the same price would fill up just about anything you could lift onto their counter. Having a couple 32 ounce Big Gulp glasses handy we didn't sample any other brews after that, but we sure enjoyed the music. |

Barb: Did you notice that the offer includes Limericks? I wonder how they will handle that? and does the premium wine come with
Remano: I always try to notice who's glass is full, and then see where they got it! But like you said, once the servers start imbibing, you can pretty much go anywhere. The temps are expected to be 100+ for that weekend, and in the streets with all the pavement, that feels like 115, but lucky for us, the entries to El Dorado are wide, and blow AC out to mother nature, allowing for the best of both worlds, outside near the music, shaded, holding a brew and AC blowing on you....can't wait |

I'm pretty sure some of the casinos, especially the Eldo as sponsor of the event, will have blues bands playing in their lounges during the day as well as at night. Have a good time. |

Since we were recently out there, there's little hope of my being able to make it back specifically for the brewfest, but it sounds like heaven!!!
So to all who are in the area at the time, please do me a favor and HOIST ONE FOR STAN!!! |
