The Gazette-Journal's Best of Reno list was published today. It's just a popularity contest, not a scientific poll, and some businesses aren't above stuffing the ballot boxes, but it makes interesting reading nonetheless.

To get the discussion started, I ask you: Roundtable for best pizza? Olive Garden for best Italian? What were they thinking?

Congrats to my castle!!!

Now as much as i like olive garden, i cant say that it deserves best italian. Granted the only other Italian place i have had in reno is at Romanza (the Pep). it would have to win hands down to Olive garden. Olive garden is the fast food version of Italian. What are people thinking?????

Confused

Y'know, I think visitreno.com should hold a "best of" survey so visitors could contribute their opinions, too. What should we call it and what should be the categories? Any ideas?

Quote:
BEST TABLE GAMES

And another new winner gets the top hand.

1. Peppermill

I wonder if the poll was taken months ago, before the former Eldorado table games director was hired at Peppermill and downgraded the blackjack games, more than doubling the house advantage. If the poll includes blackjack, it certainly is incorrect now. Double downs are now restricted to 10 and 11 on all Peppermill single deck games, and the intolerance of players' brain usage is as high there as ever.

I like the idea

some off-the-beat categories might spice it up a bit....Like

best Strip Club
best escort agency
best place to pick up a crack-whore
favorite moderator

It's interesting how you grouped strip clubs, escort agencies, crack whores and moderators. Hmmmmm....

Looking over the RGJ list, one wonders why they even bother; an overwhelming number of categories simply repeat last year's results.

We need some order for this...while "Best Dive" and such come to mind (*cough* Shooters *cough*), we need categories that utilize our board members' intimate knowledge of the area...."Best Buffet" and such is simply too broad, and doesn't cut it.
So in no particular order, here's my suggestions:

Best Hair-of-the-dog drink
Best hole-in-the-wall
Best place to purchase in-room booze
Best Lowroller gaming
Best highroller gaming
Best greasy food
Best Pole Dancing
Best Cocktail Waitress Uniforms
Best Ventilation and smoke control
Best Swimming Pool

That ought to distinguish us from RGJ's robotic Peppermill-Atlantis-El Dorado triumvirate.

I love the olive garden too! i just would not consider it the best italian in Reno. There are other places that are better for sure.

I think the list that Stan has is getting somewhere.

These best of polls are always a funny read. They really should label them "most votes" instead of best. If you see McDonalds and Applebee's on the best of list for anything, the polls lose all credibility.

The best one I have found is the best of list, in Laughlin. They have a category for - Best Micro brewery. The Boiler Room at the Colorado Belle wins it every year. Whenever, you drive into town you will see large billboards..."Voted best Micro Brewerey in Laughlin". The joke is there is only one micro brewerey in town! Laughing

I think Luciano's has the best Italian food in Reno. I also like La Strada in the Eldo.
