We are coming in on a mailer that includes dinner @ Limeriks. Any thoughts on this restaurant? |

Not the fanciest place in town but nothing wrong with it. We've eaten there several times and never had a complaint.
I recently noticed that the marquee out front now says "Prime Rib Dinner $10.95." It used to be $8.95 and it was one of the best deals downtown. Is that the price of progress? |

It's not fancy, but it's acceptable for free food. I wouldn't pay to eat there, but there's no sense in not taking advantage of offered free food.

We always eat at Limericks when in Reno at the Fitz and we think the Prime Rib dinner is always great. Let me know what is happening now at the Fitz with the new owners having taken over. What changes are they making? Barb |

I'll chime in barb, having just been there.
My perception:
It is scuzzier than ever. That goes for casino and most especially the rooms. It's the first time that I actually DISLIKED the rooms.
Why do they keep turning the water off overnight. The last several trips, this has occurred. I do not wish to crawl between the sheets "whilst I am still smoky". |

Jerry, do you mean they actually do turn off the water overnight???
If they do what is the reason?? Have they made any changes in the casino that you noticed? I am hesitent to make any reservations if they are falling apart Barb |

Not sure what they actually do about the water but they always seem to threaten it.
As for changes, mostly they just moved the machines around. Doesn't look much better, perhaps a few less machines--especially the ones I liked the best.
More hand pays to cash out. Downstairs restroom closed.
Gloomy, I thought.
Rooms seemed much more run-down and depressing. Lousy view from my low floor of rooftops full of cigarette buttes to go with the air conditioning units.
Plus, someone stole my wife's winter coat off her stool on the first night we were there. Had to walk to Siena in sub-freezing weather without my coat because I made my wife wear mine.
No decent drink choices as always. Cut out most of promotions. Closing out the gift area to redeem comps - not much left - and nothing of interest.
Wish the news was better. I WANT to like the Fitz but never find anything positive. They and the Siena are the only places downtown that don't offer ANY decent video poker, my preferred game of relaxation. |

I usually vacation in Reno
But rarely bet much on that Keno
But craps is my game
While JD is my name
I'm still looking for that favorite casino
A line bet with max odds is a must
and the prop bets are always a bust
take the line with max odds
with the luck of the Gods
You'll soon satisy that gambling lust
The stickman must call every roll
and the boxman will play very droll
lay a bet for the boys
be one of the joys
of meeting the table's payroll
If this thread's supposed to be about Limericks
then why aren't you speaking in metrics?
if you want it to rhyme
gotta set it to time
or we'll have to start calling you dipsticks

Jerry, It doesnt sound good for the Fitz. Instead of improving things it sounds like everything is worse. I always liked getting Waterford crystal with my points and now thats over too. Closing the downstairs restroom is also not cool. I may have to think about a new favorite casino
J.D. If The Fitz is a bust
then ElDorado is a must!!!!! Barb |

Not so. The blackjack has been improved. No more restricted double downs, and there is usually a $25 minimum table open. Most dealers are dealing a decent game. There are a few slugs who constantly shuffle, but most are decent. The incessant tip-hustling still abounds, however.

Bravo on the Limerick, JD - my favorite line is the one with "Dipsticks" at the end.
Since you pointed out the dearth of Limericks in this thread, I'll throw in my own - curiously enough, I recently posted this elsewhere, from a vision I had of a poetry battle:
************************************
A Japanese poet inadvertently opened an offensive in what came to be known as the Limerick/Haiku wars, by writing:
Old Eire with its jewels
Its glorious coasts and hills
Engulfed by liquor
Limerick decided to return fire and settle the matter:
There once was a fancy haiku
Whose meaning nobody knew
They counted it out
Then said, "With no doubt,
The writer must love sniffing glue"
Haiku Responded:
Our time was lovely
But limericks feed no thought
We bid you farewell
Limerick never backed away from a fight, however, and countered:
There once was a wonderful time
When prose was able to rhyme
But then came Japan
Oh so artfully bland
Among artists, they are the mime
But Haiku was not easily rattled:
How sour are these winds
That whisper and boast but only
Bring trash and Vaudeville
Limerick responded with:
There once was a beautiful nose
That was broken at the hands of its foes
While it once could blow snot
There's now just a blood clot
And that's not the end of its woes
It could go on, but you get the idea!

A casino that's known as Fitzgerald's
Sat across Virginia from Harold's
But Harold's closed down
It's no longer in town
And Fitzgerald's seems likewise imperiled. |

Face it, Stan
You like to see your name in print;
but you're the Man,
and that's the end of it.
Barb, just admiring your avatar. We look like a matched pair (in our avatars). But I doubt that you really look like YOUR avatar, whereas mine is a recent actual photo. (insert "I wish" here)
I, too, have grown to like (but not love) the Eldorado. But I never win there. Still, their comps are very good. I don't seem to be able to eat enough to use mine up.
I was hoping to make Reno on the 21st but the bus trip from Southern Oregon got cancelled. I have no other way to get there. I'd jump at the chance to go for a few days if transportation was available.
the 21st was a very good time for me to go. |

Oh Jerry you make me laugh about our avatars. I know you really look like yours And I know I looked like mine a few-few few years ago Oh well, we still know how to have a good time
I did win $1000 at El Dorado last time we went to Reno on a .25 cent machine. I also use some of my credits in the gift shop since we dont use them all on food. I am tempted to stay there next time we go. Barb |
