Hey!! Might not be a bad idea!
The next "big thing" is Scheel's, another mega-sporting goods store set to open at the Legends at Sparks Marina development in about a year. It's going to be almost double the size of Cabela's.
After that comes the Bass Pro Shops at the proposed Stations Casino site on the south edge of town at 395 and the Mount Rose Highway, which will be about 10% larger than Cabela's.
If all goes as planned, that means you will not be able to enter Reno without going by a mega-sports store except from the north on 395. So, I would say it's only natural that the IKEA should go next to the Bonanza. It's not a sports store, but at least all 4 compass points of entry would be covered by some big box development. |

I imagine the crowds are getting smaller by now. I might make a trip soon to check it out. I order by mail from them about once a month, so it might be nice to do a touch and feel before I buy.
Do they still have plans for a Bass Pro Shops at the south end of town? And now Scheel's? I just can't see how Reno could support all of these mega stores. 
Looking forward to checking out Cabellas.  |

WOW!!! Scheels? Another pretty decent sporting goods store
(Most I have seen though were about half the size of the Cabellas I have been in)
Bass Pro shops next

I never could figure out why they had to tear down the truck stop. Now they are going to build it again? Too bad for the Boomtown employees, as the truckers gave them good business.
I did stop in at Cabellas a few weeks ago, and it is an impressive place. |

I just came back from a stay at the Peppermill, where I played blackjack with a competent dealer who had dealt full-time at boomtown for 20 years only to be cut to one day a week (I learned this from her relieif dealer). Do you think boomtown isn't able to fade all that minimum wage? It's pretty harsh if you ask me.
Are there any responsible, ethical employers in Nevada, who genuinely care about their employees? I try not to patronize establishments who treat their employess like dirt. Does that mean I should boycott Nevada? Who owns boomtown these days, and what other casinos do they own?
I went to Cabela's on the way out of town but they didn't have what I was looking for. Pretty big. Seems mainly for hunters and gun-lovers. There's way too many guns and camoflauge stuff for my taste -- I thought I saw dick cheney caressing a big hunting rifle, but on closer inspection it was somebody else ... lol! Luckily there's a REI near me. Better selection of camping and sporting gear -- and no guns!
Why they tore down the truckstop, I don't know. Seems there's enough room up there for both the truckstop, Cabela's and an amusment park, if they want to pretend to be Primm. Oh well...

| Boomtown is owned by Pinnacle Entertainment who also owns Lumière Place Casino & Hotels, Saint Louis, MO, L’Auberge du Lac Casino Resort, Lake, Charles, LA, Belterra Casino Resort & Spa, Florence, IN, Boomtown Casino, Bossier City, LA, Boomtown Casino, Harvey, LA, President Casino, Saint Louis, MO, The Casino at Emerald Bay, Exuma, Bahamas and the Atlantic City Casino Project, Pinnacle Atlantic City which will be built on the former Sands Atlantic City site. The Sands was brought done in a spectacular Vegas style implosion on October 18, 2007. It was Atlantic City's casino implosion ever. |

There's no doubt in my mind that it has affected their business, and I don't think Cabela's has had as much impact as they had expected. I've only gone to Cabela's once just to check it out, and it seemed like a lot of the shoppers were family groups. Those folks weren't heading over to the casino after they were done shopping, that's for sure.
But there's still hope. Boomtown plans to rebuild the truck stop. In early February they reached an agreement with the city that allows them to be grandfathered in under previous zoning regulations rather than to be subject to more stringent restrictions on truck stops that went into effect in December. Construction or at least site preparation might be under way even as we speak. |

Remano, when I was at Cabellas, there was a big group of young kids looking at the animals and fish. I think it must have been cub scouts (?). This is not the type of business Boomtown wants brought out there. Also, they were putting up chain controls, and the trucks were lined up along I-80 rather than in the Boomtown truck stop.
I remember when they had a special line for "truckers" for the buffet. They had all sorts of special deals for them.
Come to think of it, when I stopped at Cabellas, I did not go into Boomtown either. |

Nevada is a right to work state and most employers could really give a shit about you........cause there are 10 people waiting in line for your job that just moved to the state |
