So which tower is better at Harrahs? East or West. I am going to book a night there, and i can get a comped room but am not sure which is best.

Any opinions from my fellow board members would be greatly appreciated. Laughing

i DON'T stay there much but the last time the West tower was nice, redone. Rooms small but nice, dark woods like the Tuscan Suites. Coffee pot, I think. This is usually what I have asked for - West tower.

West tower seems kind of small since they remodeled it and put in such large furniture. East tower has larger TV. Having stayed in both I like the East because the room feels a bit larger and I prefer the 32" TV. My only complaint is having to let the water run several minutes to get hot water...seems like a waste of water and energy.

Hey Alison Id definitely try the West Tower. Your views will be of the Reno strip vs. the side streets, there are two big comfy chairs and a coffee table in there as well. It appears smaller than the east tower but has a huge closet so that's why. They usually charge about $20 extra per nite for an upgrade but it's worth it...I got hooked up for my birthday and they gave it to me for free. The decor in the west tower seems more oriental-style vs. traditional and as another user pointed out there is more furniture.

What tower is closer to the casino? Before we got stuck in a room that was a hike to everything.

Hey Alison,

The West Tower is located over the Virginia St. side of the casino. I remember you had to go up the escalators to the second floor and hang a right just before you get to the buffet to access the tower elevators. The east tower seemed closer to the parking garage/checkin area, you had to go around the corner and through the casino, down some stairs to the noodle shop and sundry shop to get to those elevators.

On our last trip, my friend stayed in the east tower and I stayed in the west. I was right over the pool and the view of Virginia street directly across from Fitzgeralds, while my friend was in plain view of the Cal-Neva and the side street that's got the liquor store and Vietnamese restaurant right beside it.

Sorry if this sounds vague, this was only my second trip there but overall the west tower seemed better! Either way it seemed like a little bit of a walk to get to the main casinos...there's a small slot area right outside the west tower elevators in front of the buffet but it seemed detatched and didn't pay out at all (for me, anyway!)

Hope this helps. I also noticed on my offers that usually the comped rooms are East Tower only but I guess I got lucky, and they always give you an option to upgrade as we all know. Either way, the buffet and Ichiban Japanese Steakhouse are both definitely worth hitting up.

Thanks Mammoth!! Appreciate the Input. I think i will book a night in the west tower. e may not even stay in it. Who knows. We need to get some play going downtown, so it would be nice to have a room down there, just in case we need it.

The last time I stayed there was in January 2004, so I don't know what the renovated rooms are like. However, in late 2003 or so, I understand that the city made them seal the windows shut (previously they had opened all the way, then later -- perhaps after someone's suicide dive -- just an inch or so for fresh air).
I don't think the building was designed to be sealed, so when it was sealed, all of the non-smoking floors started to smell like smoke, because the ventilation system wasn't able to clear it. So I moved to the east tower (I'd stayed there many times when it was the Hampton Inn), which was designed to be sealed, and it's ventilation system handles smoke well so the non-smoking floors are indeed smoke-free.
I don't know if they've improved the ventilation system in the west tower (though I doubt it as it would be very expensive, and from the LVBear's blog we know that harrah'$ likes to cut corners during renovations), but if smoke bothers you, then the east tower's non-smoking floors will definitely be smoke-free.
As for views, I like the east tower's unobstructed south facing view a little more than the west tower's west facing view, but to each his or her own.
Have a good trip!

Definitely stay in the W. Tower. It's closer to both casinos, restaurants and the Starbucks is right off the elevator!

The remodeled rooms are nice, be sure to check out the "furry" lampshade...LOL

Wow, Erin, if we do indeed "see any more" of you on here (ala the avatar), it will most surely blow my hard drive.
