We are getting complaints about a lack of meaningful posts, so I will add a non meaningful trip report. This is not exactly Reno, but you can score in the game of horseshoes by being close, so I guess this report will work. ??
I woke up at 6 AM on Thurs. with the alarm and I was sick--- spring fever. I was itching to go somewhere- anywhere. My work was caught up and Thurs and Friday were free so why not?
I decided that a drive through the mountains might work, so I decided to go to Topaz Lodge on the Cal/Nev. border. They will always have a room for me. Now for those of you that don't know, the Topaz Lodge is located on the California Nevada border (hwy 395) on the Topaz Lake. They were giving double points on Thurs and triple points from 1 -5 PM. To get there I travel the scenic Hwy 108 over the Sonora Pass at almost 10,000 ft. It is a beautiful drive for sure. Saw a little snow from last winter still in the shaded areas.
I got there about 3 PM. No free room here, so I checked at the slot club--- I have $23 in comps. I checked to see if they have rooms..... she said no problem and I can check in later. I wanted to get in on the 3X comps so I played till 5 PM and now I have $40 in comps. I check into a room, and that means I have to pay $22. That is OK with me.
I was down almost $200 at this point... nothing was working, so I see they have a 3 card poker table at $3 min. I played and played and played. I hit two SF and one 3 of a kind. I played some more video poker, had a nice dinner in the steak house and play more 3 card poker.... The head gal came around and said no graveyard shift, and they were closing down all table games. What time is it?? I forgot my watch.
I cashed out my chips for the 2nd time and I was ahead. I decided to play some $1 9/6 JOB and had some good hits. what time is it? I cashed out at $400 and looked around the casino.... there was only one other person playing in the casino. I wonder what time is it?
I went back to the room and counted my money and checked the time...... up $350 after dinner and tips for the many beers, and it was 4:45 AM!!! Ouch.
I got up about 9:30 AM took a shower and checked out. I played a little more with a couple cups of coffee, but I was not feeling too good. I drove home, but pulled over and took an hour nap in the high sierra mountains. Not too comfortable in the back seat of my truck, but it worked wonders.
I am getting too old to do this ..... feeling fine now. |

Those spontaneous trips are the best! and a winner too, pretty cool. I also went up last minute this weekend, and I'm inspired into writing a little about it now. |

Thanks for the nice trip report. Hubby and I took Hwy 108 over the Sonora Pass a few years ago, it's a beautiful drive. I never noticed the Topaz Lodge though, is it nice? Congrats on the wins. |
