Have the new owners started to improve the Fitz? The last time we were in there the new owners had only been there for a short time and the Fitz seemed dead. No-one was playing upstairs, on the few machines they had left. The few people who were downstairs were "interesting" to say it nicely.

We have always loved the Fitz because it was a really relaxed place that seem to pay us very well, but the last few times we were in their it wasn't the same. Hopefully the new owners will update the hotel/casino without losing the Fitz charm.

Thanks

Erin

I quickly stroll thru without stopping each trip.

So far, the only change is renaming it THE PITZ!!!

Despite the cornucopia of potential puns, I am now in favor of the "New" Fitz - the reason for this is that they re-opened the lucky forest, and are now giving the free spin on the big machine, the free Five dollars for new members, and the free dollar for existing members.

Having said that, I'll note that when I went there, the line was hopelessly long, and there was only a single, harried employee, so I didn't bother collecting my free dollar - but at least they're offering it!

Free money is free money; I don't much care how empty the casino is, even though such a condition is usually a forebearer of bad news.

We recently did a hit and run there with a birthday comp, not even stopping for a beer! gasp! I outlined the meal debacle with the flyer in my trip report, and it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth, (and I'm not talking just the food).

I didn't notice any changes or upgrades, but they send us an offer a week. Timing and the lavish offers of rooms from Harrah's has kept us away. I kinda feel bad, giving them up for the BBD (Bigger/Better/Deal) of Harrah's especially when Fitz was giving us freebies back when we weren't on anyone else's radar.

We have booked a crabfest in mid October, free rooms and a crab dinner, but the timing has worked out with some visiting family anyway. I'll report back after that trip.

Soon after opening up the new “better” blackjack games, Fitzgeralds suffered a self-inflicted, probably-terminal case of shuffling disease. Fitz’s now-horrible games are tied with Circus Circus as Reno’s worst — except for Harrah’s, of course. The new Fitzgeralds owners who bought it out of bankruptcy will probably soon be putting it back into bankruptcy.

Though they lie and advertise as if the Fitzgeralds blackjack is decent, the constant shuffling makes it worthless. I have railed against this management stupidity before, and will continue to do so. Stay away from the place. It does not deserve your patronage.

Stan, I like your style.

Why do people buy a place, promote change, and then regress.
There is room for a decent casino at this location. Why don't they do something positive.
It is a worse dive than before new ownership, IMO. I want to like this place. Please give me a reason.
It is depressing to walk through. It needs some life!!!

Thanks, Stonedude, but I'm going to have to retract that entire thumbs-up - I was just there last night, and the "Free" dollar is now something that you have to qualify for, and you qualify by playing first - on your own money, of course.

Not only that, but the "Lucky Forest" now has a "No winner" possibility - in the past, you always got an eyeglass repair kit, or a cheesy frisbee, or a set of dice - now, it's possible to get absolutely nothing.

So my initially revised opinion has now been forced into an about-face.

More later; there's Reno-in's afoot...

Sorry about your disapppointment. Most of us don't like a lot of change.

Now, howsabout your low-roller trip report? Anything else of note?

I did like getting some of that junk like the eyeglass repair kit.

Things could get worse. The current trend, taken to it's logical conclusion, would have us paying admission to the Unlucky Forest where the top prize is a "6 in the hole " blackjack coupon.

By the way, Stan, how does one qualify for the free dollar?

Takes a warped mind to come up with a "6 in the hole " blackjack coupon.
That's, however, about as close as I generally come to a blackjack.

"Qualifying" for a dollar. Wow, things have risen to new lows.
Even BQ*, it was usually not worth waiting in line for the buck. Now, fuggeddaboutit.

*BQ = Before Qualifying

Has anyone stayed at the Fitz lately?
Any changes yet in the rooms?
Are they still a bit dark, dingy, depressing?

Do they still issue nightly "water cut-off warnings" ?

No changes. Yes they are still dark, dingy, and depressing. Way overdue for routine maintenance, too.

"Yes they are still dark, dingy, and depressing."
Now, let's see that's d-d-d. That is a Triple D...
Who was it on another thread that referred to the "D" issue?
I'll take a Triple D anyday.

I'll expand on this in a trip report, which will probably have to wait until Tuesday - sorry, I know how eagerly you await word of my seven-hands-of-blackjack carousing - but I will say in the meantime that the coupon they hand out on Virginia Street now says "Active Players" regarding the free dollar.

I didn't see this, and went all the way to the counter, where I was told I hadn't qualified - as I recall it, the clerk pulled out some piece of paper which ostensibly bore the required levels of play, but since I no longer could recognize anything other than the fact that the dollar wasn't free, I paid it little heed. I realize in retrospect that I probably should have paid attention so I could pass this valuable information on to other cheapskates and/or other visitreno.com board members - how incredibly selfish of me!

But anyway, the "Free Dollar" is still no longer there, and the whole thing has gone back to being lame.

More later.

WHERE'S MY TRIPLE D??

Certainly not on 4th St or at Shooters Dive...

Triple D = Dark, Dimpled, and Dangerous.

or: Depraved, Disgusting, and Demented?

or: Down Dis Dear and you'll feel a lot better (and I'll look younger and slimmer)

or: Dave's Dam Dive (aka Shooters)

What did I miss?
