Well, I see that Thunder Valley Casino just east of Reno has pulled the plug on its huge $1 billion expansion project. The trouble was this project was way past the planning stage...... they already had several floors built.
The newest casino to open, Red Hawk on Hwy 50 just outside of Placerville is going to open December 17th. Their timing could not have been worse, but they are way way committed. This is a big operation: 6 restaurants, 4 bars, 2000 slot machines and 75 table games. This one will take a lot of business from South Shore Lake Tahoe casinos.
I think even Cache Creek casino is doing a $300 million expansion project too. |

we visit the local places a couple a times a year each. When we got back from Tahoe yesterday, there were mailers from both Thunder Valley and Cache Creek. They usually send $5 or $10 slot play. This time, both were giving $20 a day. Red Hawk sent us $60, but only one of us got it, we'll wait till a week after the opening, and then check it out.
We prefer going OVER the hill to get our game on, but sometimes, weather or time prevents it, sending us local. We do it less and less, as the odds are terrible, the booze expensive (as against free) and the vibe lacking. |

Reno Lady that is interesting you got some free play from a casino that is not open. How did Red Hawk get your name, and figure you are deserving enough to get $60 in free play? |

At first I thought they must have bought our names from a competitor, but if that were the case, I'd also get an offer, not just R, as we play together in the same amounts. Since it's just in R's name, it could have come from any purchased list, even Vegas.
We're blowing off the $20 offers, but the Red Hawk $60 will get us in the door, and a look around, combining the visit with some stops in the wineries in the area. |

My hubby and I swore not to step foot into a casino in California. Every time we are there, we would be there longer if we searched for a person to give our money to. So far we have been true to our word and haven't been to a local casino in about 6 months.
We always have a great time in Reno and never pay for room, food, or drinks. We usually come home with some of our gambling money (if not mroe than we went up with). So for us, Reno is a much better deal.
Just my 2 cents,
Erin |
