R and I spent last weekend in Reno (1/23-1/26), first time at Harrah's there.

Man those rooms are small! 200 sq ft maybe? clean, quality and all, but you almost had to walk sideways between the end of the bed and the desk.

Couldn't win at Harrah's. Really. We won at almost EVERY other casino, or stayed even, what's with that?! Makes me re-think the "chasing comps" concept of got to get those tier credits for the "free" room.

It was busy enough at Atlantis and Peppermill, but downtown was hurting; we overtipped out of empathy and were almost embarrassed at the desperate/grateful responses. Scares me. It's only going to get worse.

Still really like Cal Neva. Best gaming odds/choices; food deals and service. But damn-n-n-n!!! clean it up a little....

Atlantis was packed both days we were there; service was good. However, our beloved Oyster Bar served substandard sea food. The manager was apologetic and explained the bad seafood through a new supplier, his answer was to give us MORE of the bad seafood, R's says he's done with them, I think a letter to Ferrari? It is after all, one time in maybe 30 times, but the problem was the manager's answer, and they're being okay with serving crappy food. Not usually Atlantis's style.

Next trip in February, Reno again.

West. And they were really proud of it compared to the East, which scares me a little, as we're in the East next month. don't get me wrong, it was quality, just little!

Good to know!

On the website, the west looks like its nicer, and costs more. I was trying to decide which to book.

I haven't stayed at harrah'$ for a few years, but I always preferred the east tower when I used to stay there regularly. It's much newer, and it's designed for sealed windows, so the ventilation is much better.

The north side of the west tower was designed for windows which open. They used to open, before they were sealed shut a few years ago. Since then, every room in the north side of the west tower is effectively a smoking room, because the smoke gets circulated throughout the tower between smoking and no-smoking floors with seemingly no outside ventilation -- gross! I highly doubt they've modified the HVAC system to get rid of the smoke.

The south part of the west tower was designed with sealed windows, but I don't know how it fares these days, as its hallways are connected to the north part. I wouldn't be surprised if they are smokey as well.

I read on some board somewhere (perhaps here) that harrah'$ has renovated all of its rooms (which was badly needed in the north-west tower), so they should be fine in the east tower too. Whichever you pick, I hope you take a lot of their money. I hate harrah'$!
