I can't wait, we have 2 more days until our longest trip to Reno!!! Very Happy The forecast says it will be clear for our drive up. We have decieded to try Virgina City, we were thinking of taking our kids there if it is worth it. We will see.

I'll post a trip report when we get back, so keep your fingers crossed that it will be a good one.

Start with a visit to "The Way it Was" museum. Then go up and down both sides of C street to get an idea what you want to come back to.

Take your boys into the Ponderosa Saloon. Let them see the old bank vault and look at the stuff on the walls. Then one parent take them on the mine tour while the other has a drink at the bar. If Bax is your guide, tell him JD says HI!

Take the kids to the Mark Twain bookstore (say hi to the fire chief, Joe & go to the fire museum) and get a kids history book, then ride the steam train if it's running that day. If the engineer is the former county commissioner, Chuck Haynes...tell him JD says Hi.

Have fun and take lots of pics.

During any of your trip, will you be checking out any spas? Of interest are the new ones at Peppermill and the Atlantis. I just saw the Atlantis website and to say "over the top" would be an understatment. Visting in April and deciding on one....although the thought of both is attractive!

Hope you have a GREAT time and will look forward to your TR!

JD, is there anyone you don't know. Laughing If we get arrested can I drop your name, or will that get us into more trouble? Laughing For over 12 years coming to Reno (legally) we finally deceided to make time for a trip to VC, every trip up we say we should try it but never get around to it. I think my kids will love it, but when you bring a 5 & 8 yr old you want to be positive they will like it or your trip will be terrible. That's why mom and dad need to check it out first. Wink

Zydeco, I was thinking about a spa day. If the casino's are treating us well, I might try it out. I just saw a commercial for the Atlantis' spa and if I do it, I think I will use that one (unless someone knows a better one).

This will be short as we are not allowed much computer time here in this "Silver Boom Facility".

Here's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

Couple of weeks ago, I followed this board's advice and trekked to Virginia City for a look around. Stopped in a local watering hole (don't even remember the name), plopped on a barstool, and ordered a beer.

A few minutes later, the lonely bartender ambled over for a chat.
"how you doin', pardner?"
Fine, I replied!
"What brings you to Comstock Country?"
Oh, I was visiting Reno, and one of my friends recommended that I check out Virginia City.
"And, pardner, who would that friend be?"
Well you probably know him as JD.
"Really, JD is your friend?"
Yep!
Before I finished my beer, I was pulled from my stool, the cuffs were slapped on me, and here I rot awaiting trial for "consorting with unsavory characters".

(I still don't understand why all my cash went towards an unpaid bar bill when all I had was one beer. Or maybe I do since the unpaid tab was for 38 Jack Daniels on the Rocks in a bucket.)

And that's a TRUE STORY...... (Or maybe not!)

I have reservations at the Spa Tuscana at Peppermill. I think it just opened in 11/08? There is a coupon for a 80 min massage for the 50 min price in the 2009 American Casino Guide (one of the only Reno coupons in the guide Rolling Eyes ), but it's value is around $50 depending on the massage you pick.

I'll let ya'll know how it goes when I get back. I had to wait on hold for like 10 min to make the reservation, but the lady sounded super nice.

Hi Aaron,

Please do post a trip report on the Peppermill Spa. Another website had some less than excellent reviews, but I think that is always the case when a new business opens.

The photos look amazing and some of the treatments interesting.

Let me know!
