RGJ reports that the Cal Neva at Crystal Bay will close its casino March 31 while it searches for new management. Better get up there if you want to gamble at this historical property. The plan is to reopen in the future, possibly by the end of this year, but we all know plans are subject to change.
According to the article, business is picking up for the hotel and restaurant, which will stay open even though the casino is dark. Link:

I'm one of the few fans of that location, but something's gotta change. Last time I was there, the casino was alive, but with that near-death-throes feeling, and besides, my ten bucks disappeared really fast in one of their machines, which added to the general sense of ennui and decline.
I sure hope they can reorganize and reopen; it would be a shame to lose the property altogether. It's a piece of history! |

Am I surprised? No. Every time I have been there for the last two years, I figured that was my last time to see them open. Stan's $10 loss kept them open for a few more months, but he has not returned in awhile. Thanks Stan!!!
I hope someone steps up and make it a viable operation. |
