|

I get a lot of casino offers in the mail, but the one for Labor Day weekend really caught my attention. MontBleu at Lake Tahoe sent me an offer for free rooms Saturday and Sunday, bonus free play, two free tickets to see Bad Company on Saturday and Fireworks on Sunday night that included a dinner, seats on the beach at Edgewood and transportation. Who could say no? Not me.
My wife and I arrived at Lake Tahoe mid afternoon on Saturday and I found the outdoor parking area mostly full, so I thought I would try the parking garage. It looked quite low, but I went in. I drove my large pickup truck, and I got worried about the height clearance. I opened up the sun roof and the first girder was about 12" away. The next one was lower and less than 6" clearance.....too close for me, so I parked right there. I will not park my truck in there again.
We checked in at the hotel, and headed over to Harvey's where I had $25 in free play to use. That did not last too long, but we played for a few hours and then had dinner at Cabo Wabo at Harvey's. This is the first time I have dined there, and it was pretty good. We then headed back to MontBleu, and my wife said - Look at the sign about the concert tonight. It said- Tonight Bad Company with Brain Howe.... Brain? Ha Ha. Brian has a good voice, but I don't think he would qualify as a brain.
We headed back up to the room, and decided to use the in room jacuzzi tub. How relaxing to look out over the Lake Tahoe area with a glass of wine in the tub. We headed down about 30 minutes before the concert which I thought would be plenty of time, as I had the tickets in hand. I found out you had to get in a long line to get a bracelet to get in. We made it into the concert area, and it was packed! We found a couple of seats, but it turned out to be a poor choice. A temporary bar had been set up in front of us and people getting drinks blocked our view. Oh. well. Bad Company is a four piece band with Brian Howe as the vocalist. He performed with the group in the 80's. They played some of the old stuff with the encore of Bad Company (song).
I noticed that the concert tickets gave you a $10 match play coupon, so Sunday morning we headed down to the casino and gave them a try...... lost both of them. Darn! Sunday was spent in the casino, so not much to report there. My wife put in $20 and 5 hours later cashed out $10. That was a lot of play on $10! I did not have too much luck, but my free play and cash lasted a long time.
We headed over to the transportation area, and they took us down to the Edgewood Country Club beach area. They had a great spread of food for us and even beer on tap. The salmon was great, and I enjoyed the hot apple cobbler for dessert. They had the fanciest porta potties I have ever seen. They had seperate men and women sides, outdoor/indoor lighting, sinks, artwork and even pipped in music. The Fireworks lasted 20 minutes, and were really good. They have made some improvements in the last couple of years in the quality of fireworks. We missed the first shuttle bus back, so we decided to walk back to the casino. After the huge dinner it felt good to get out and walk.
Well that is about it for the weekend. I had free rooms, did not pay for any food, and had a lot of free play, but I still ended down a little for the gambling. Certainly a high value for my money. I decided to drive home the scenic route and took Hwy 4. What a beautiful drive, and we stopped to have lunch out on the deck at Lake Alpine. A very nice place for a lunch. However, I did get into some bad Holiday traffic, and the route did take me a lot longer to get home.

That was a great offer. Sounds like you had a good time for not much money. I think playing for 5 hours on $10 actually qualifies as winning, when you factor in the free drinks.
Thanks for posting! |

Nice trip report Swede! Good prices too. Next time you're there please drop my name and mention that I'm an extreme high roller who always losses but doesn't like to pay for penthouse suites, gourmet food, lake cruises etc. |

Nice weekend and THANK YOU for the report!! I've been curious about the Lake Tahoe gang of casinos and it sounds far more scenic (well, landscape-wise) than Reno. Maybe this next summer we'll detour from Reno to check it out.... |

I, too, thank you for this, and I meant to ask: Did "Bad Company" play "Feel like makin' love"? I would imagine that would be a requirement, but I like to confirm such things.... |

Dave- you are on your own about the name dropping. Talk is cheap- all the casinos say is "show me the money." |
