I see Station Casinos has opened up a Reno webpage. Not a lot of information, but it looks like they are trying to drum up some support.

Probably just me, but I am not a huge fan of StationCasinos.
Living in Vegas, stations supposedly caters to locals......but truely they offer their best comps to out of towners. A few months ago I inquired about a free room at Green Valley Ranch (during mid-week) just for a little getaway for my wife and I. I was told that I was a local and they do not give rooms to locals. Heck, they wouldn't even give me a casino rate.
If they build, they might bring some decent dining and shopping to the neighborhood though. |

I hope this new casino has similar VP games and slot hold %'s as in Las Vegas. It would be nice to have some competition and increase the number of decent VP available in Reno. |

I like Station Casinos. (Thunder Valley excluded). Their games are fair, the food good and cheap, and the staff happy. |

I like them too. The more casinos the better. Reno can use a bit of help and it sounds like it's on the way. Maybe Reno will end up with a mini Vegas strip and a seedy downtown. What do you think? |

Wow, fascinating conjecture - heck, the seedy downtown is already in place!
We could well end up with Vegas, Jr.

There are some folks who might say they already have both!
Before the Silver Legacy addition, downtown was looking pretty shabby. Most locals centered their play at the Atlantis and Peppermill, along with Western Village and some other local's places. We were locals then.
I think Reno is big enough to have both areas of gambling. As a Californian now, I like valeting my car for the weekend, and walking the different casinos downtown. We'll get in the car and head to Atlantis for their Oyster bar and some slots, but that's about it.
I don't know what the Station could mean to us. Could it pull us away from downtown? maybe. |

We really like Stations Casinos, especially GVR in LV. We stay there every trip when we get free offers. It really is too bad that the locals casinos really do cater more to visitors than to locals but, as visitors, we're really happy to get those free rooms. With the coming of these two new Stations casinos, we'll have yet another reason to visit Reno/Tahoe. I didn't see any time frame. Is there one or is it a long way off? |

Just read a interview with Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta in this months Casino Player magazine. It seems two casinos are planned for Reno and the first will be similar to GVR.
The Fertittas stated that they know how to build "locals" casinos and that is the plan for the two Reno properties. |

they better have somthing really good games to offer like stand on 17 double down on any two cards and early surrender single deck black jack or a single zero roulette wheel and 10/7 vp to get my lazy arse out there. _________________ Don't play blackjack that pays 6:5..Changing that one rule, reducing blackjack payouts from 3:2 to 6:5 adds a substantial 1.39% to the casino's advantage. |

My favorites of any casinos anywhere are the Stations.
When I go south to LV, I only play in Stations - usually a lot of different ones. If I could go there all the time, I'd never go to Reno.
Stations gives you much more fair odds on VP which is what I mostly play. We love to stay at Sunset. I tried for a trip there this month but my spouse nixed it.
They have lots of full pay VP machines. They are a classy outfit. By far, IMO, the best locals type casino anywhere.
My last Royal was at Stations. I have played probably 50 times as much in Reno as elsewhere and have a grand total of ONE Royal Flush in Reno.
I am just sorry that they will not be there in this lifetime as I am growing old and gray and 5 years is a long time to wait at this stage of life.
But I will keep working on the Vegas trip.
I highly recommend Green Valley Ranch. It is far and away the nicest place I have ever stayed. They comped us when new. We didn't spend enough and never got another offer. But it was a treat. I counted the doors in our suite ---- we had 11 doors.
They could help Reno a lot by forcing the others (hopefully) to be competitive. Now the casinos just keep nibbling away and suppressing my desire to play there. There changing paycharts are really sneaky and underhanded. |

Ok guys I got to ask what in the heck is a stations casino?!!? From the talk I am ready to go check it out but I figure I better figure out what it is first.
Good to hear from you Jerry. We just went down to Lincoln City Ore. for Spring Break and had a great time. Oregon sure it beautiful.
I must tell you for a guy that is still plugging away and playing softball I will put $ on you any day that you my friend will be around in 5 yrs. to see the Station Casino in Reno. (Whatever the heck it is!) |

Station Casinos will ruin Reno. I know nothing about VP, but Station blackjack is awful, especially by Reno standards. And Station is extremely tight with comps.
Station builds nice facilities with good amenities, but the table games are bad. Station will bring its bad games to Reno and succeed in spite of the bad games. Then other Reno operators will think they don't have to offer decent table games in order to attract customers, and there’ll be a whole city of Harrah’s-type ripoff joints. There will no longer be a reason for visitors to come to Reno.
I fear a slippery slope towards the end of decent table games in Reno if Station gets in. I am normally a big fan of competition, but not in this case. I hope that Station Casinos can somehow be kept out of Reno. |

Hey thanks for the info everyone...I haven't been on the board in a while, and just inquired about this in another post, so I found what I was looking for...
I'm all for it and agree with some of the others...When I go to LV, the Station Casinos are one of the three different places I play at. Comps and food are great. On this last trip I got to visit Green Valley Ranch for the first time, I was really impressed. Didn't win anything but it was definitely an experience just being there.
One thing I can say (being a snowboarder), the Mt. Rose project will work wonders for that area. It may bring a new group of visitors to the area (us snowboarder types don't like long shuttle rides from downtown to go ride...I can't imagine how cool it would be just being all there and close by!)
Looks like they are going before the city planning commission for approval this Wednesday October 18 at 6 pm. I guess we'll know soon enough. Hopefully it will work out and it would be awesome if they could incorporate the Reno property (properties?) into the mix with the LV properties' players club.
