I noticed while passing through downtown this morning that half of Virginia Street was blocked off so crews could change the lights in the arch. The 11 watt incandescent bulbs are being replaced with 2.5 watt LED's, which is supposed to provide substantial savings in energy and maintenance costs. The official "relighting" ceremony is tomorrow (Tuesday) at 5:00 p.m. |

I looked into those for my home and decided to wait. Wait until power gets MUCH more expensive or the LED bulbs get MUCH cheaper.
11 watt incandescents (11 Watt 130 Volt S14 Medium (E26) Base Clear Incandescent Display/Sign Light Bulb. ) sell for 51 cents
http://www.google.com/products?q=11+watt+clear+incandescent+bulb&scoring=p
And 2.5 watt LEDs (http://www.google.com/products?q=2.5+watt+LED+sign+bulb&scoring=p) are $ 6.40 each
If they are 12 1/2 x as expensive, do they really save more than 90% of the power?
I hope no drunk decides to smash any of the new ones. |

Thanks for the stock tip Remano. I will sell my shares of NV Energy and buy some stock of LED Unlimited. I better sell my shares of incandescent Inc. too. |
