Ok, just returned from our 20Th straight year in Reno for New Years Eve. As far as we can tell everyone survived and nobody has reported any missing body parts. No exciting trips to the County Jail to retrieve a couple of revelers. Pretty boring this year. On NYE played Craps from 6 PM to God only knows when. 3 friends were told they managed to drink 2 bottles of Crown during the evening, so I guess I can say they attended the Craps Game. As the Doctors will no longer allow me to drink Gin, I am nowhere near the great Craps Player that I once was. Damn!
On Sat. Night we all headed to the Eldorado to catch the
Darren Romeo Magic Show. Not bad, the Guy was very entertaining and the Show was well done. Where the heck are all of the great Entertainers? Nobody in Reno for New Years Eve!
We had a great time won a few bucks and pretty much had a free trip!
However to compare NYE Reno 2011 with those in the 90's isn't even fair. I would say the crowds in the Casino was about 1/3 to 1/2 of those years. Entertainers? What Entertainers? Harrah's had somekind of Cover Band in the once famous Sammy's Show Room. Sad indeed.....
Anyway, Lord willing I'm sure we will try to make it 21 Years in row in Dec. |

You may not have consumed an entire bottle of Crown Royal, But it sounds like you got the job done otherwise!
No worthwhile acts on New Year's eve? No aging rock stars from the '80's, or their cover-band equivalents?
A loud "Tsk" is clearly in order.
But good work, and thanks for the report. |

Hey CJ:
Thanks for the report, but you forgot to share where YOU think the best craps is in town now.
I used to love the 10x game at the old Comstock. The dealers were old school and really kept the chatter up...plus it was a 10x game.
A couple of those dealers ended up (for a while anyway) at Siena where the game was (at least for a while) also 10x odds.
NOW I think the best odds are at Sands, but I can't say I care much for the dealers, bosses or customers...OR the walk. And even if comps are easy, can't say a free room there is much of a gift (except in the summer on pool party night).
I really miss the Comstock. |

I hate the Sands. The Table is as hard as the parking lot, and the Dealers rude.
I liked the Sienna with 10X, but none left in Reno that I know of. Played 3-4-5 at the Nugget in Sparks and Fandango in Carson City. Kind of like the Fandango and the table was friendly. $3 mini bet. Peppermill was ok, and dealers friendly and professional.
The Western Village in Sparks is still playing $1 Game with only double Odds. But they will let you go $4 Flat, 10 Odds and push up $5 to $6 with 15 Odds. Pretty friendly with long time employees. Recommend those who want to learn to head out that way and have a good time with $50.
That's about it....... |
