Next guided tour of Reno/Viginia City = July 1 - 12 or so.
Expected highlights:
Maybe a couple of "free nights" downtown Reno to keep my cards current and explore new restaurants... and ONE offal awful.
Weekend prior to MONDAY, 04 July = Live music VirginiaCity.
MONDAY: Bloody Mary breakfast, Parade, David John and Comstock Cowboys (kinda like Sons of the Pioneers) open air concert
Click "Aces & 8s at top of page: http://www.comstockcowboys.com/
MONDAY NIGHT: Free fireworks on D Street followed by more bands on C Street, laugh at traffic jam going back to Reno.
Tues - Thurs.= Sleep
Friday thru Sunday: Americana Music Festival (multiple venues all over town) Bluegrass, Old time, Rockabilly, Irish, Cowboy, more.

Oh and I nearly forgot: Return to Mark Twain Saloon/Casino and visit that first bartop nearest the door.
Anyone want to experience a JD trip report first hand? (Except for Reno's best bartender)? YOU can be the first to refute JD's version of events.
John, tell the folks about "THE BUS" ! |

There's nothing like a finely-detailed plan involving our favorite region.
But I'd hate to see the JD version of events refuted...even if they are largely mythical, they're so entertaining! |

It's hard to find the words to describe the bus, but I'll try. Much like Dr. Who's police box, the bus is dimensionally transcendental. On the outside, it looks like a stretch Greyhound bus, but the inside is truly the 8th wonder of the world. Upon entering the bus, one is greeted with the chandelier endowed ballroom, complete with a stage, full wet bar, bartenders and cocktail waitresses.
Beyond the ballroom is the heated Olympic size pool. The bus is equipped with inertial dampeners to keep the water in the pool during acceleration and deceleration.
Admittedly, I was pretty drunk, and have only vague recollections of the second floor and sun deck. All I can remember about that part of the tour is the 5 lane bowling alley and guest quarters.
I'll report on more of this if it comes to mind. I have a feeling a lot has been left out, but I have dull, alcohol soaked memories of a pair of retractable rotors, giving the bus the capability of short flights.

Man, I have ridden that bus. AND I haven't even been to Virginia City.
But I do remember JD's bus for sure now that John has described it. |

Bus is safely parked at Siena and I am safely parked at the old Onslow.
The Cal Neva has NO parking for oversized rigs but I can see the bus from my 15th floor window.
It appears I've forgotten to pack my laptop charger so NO ON THE FLY TRIP REPORTS this time...sorry. I'll try to check in briefly but I only have battery power.
Called John yesterday...he flaked out again.
Ball is in YOUR court, John. |
