Need input for our trip in 2 weeks:

1. Best Friday Seafood Buffet?

2. Hubby loves to play pinball. Where do I direct him?

3. Anyone check out the Sammy Davis Jr. show yet? Thoughts?

4. Best casino-based cocktail joint and what do you order? I'm a beer and JD on the rocks kid of gal, but traveling companions like martinis, wine, cocktails. We usually do Roxy's and I'm all for a free libation at Aura on Thursday at 4pm, but other options?

5. I've done all the touristy stuff. What should I see off the beaten path?

Cheers!

PS: I can NOT get an avatar to post. Help?

Certainly the buffy at the Atlantis is a contender and I'm guessing you'll be there for Hot August Nights.

I can't speak to many of the seafood buffets, but I will say this about my buffet experiences in Reno:

El Dorado is amazing for breakfast/brunch - and if you're Gold or higher, you get a few bucks off -- 9.99/regular, 6.99/members or something.

Silver Legacy's Flavors Buffet is terrific for dinner or lunch - always seems fresh and a nice selection of items

Skip Harrah's buffet entirely unless it's comped - nothing bad there, but nothing outstanding either. We've had the Friday night seafood buffet - eh. It's okay.

Peppermill Buffet - we went for breakfast one time - again, nothing bad, but nothing outstanding either.

The Dog and I have been totally impressed with Fairchild's Oyster Bar/Restaurant in Silver Legacy; we've eaten there at least three times and the pan roasts (they're like a cream soup with loads of seafood and they will give you the recipe - apparently many of us ask for it!) are fantastic! They bring a lovely selection of fresh baked bread to you and we've always had good service. I would opt for Fairchild's for seafood if you're in the mood....

If you're into guitars/instruments, there's a killer place near Sparks (not far from downtown - maybe 10 minutes) called Bizarre Guitar, I believe.

Also, Scheel's is a cool experience; they're like a Bass Pro, but fewer guns, more shoes! Loads of excellent dog toys and an amazing selection of darts!!

Virginia City is fun - about a 45 minute drive from downtown up a big windy hill, but it's tiny and there's an excellent bookstore with lots of interesting Nevada/Reno history books, plus the possibility of sighting ghosts and touring down a mine shaft.... JD can give more details...

I couldn't agree more. Look on the Silver Legacy website for some good daily specials as well.

I must state my piece that if anyone is into Pinball, Reno is unfortunately *not* the best place; the winner of that title is (ugh, I know) Las Vegas, where the "Pinball Museum" resides, and if hubby's fan-ness is anything like mine, he will drool over every machine there - and they span decades and decades of pinball glory, they do.

You can see my findings buried deep within my low-budget-but-detail-rich Vegas report here.

The museum's site is http://pinballmuseum.org

Otherwise, there's a mini-arcade in most casinos, some of which have - or at least, have had - pinball, including Cal-Neva, and, I think, Peppermill.

Enjoy!

Must comment that a Pan Roast at Fairchild's is always on our agenda and scheduled already! However, I must IV mainline my body with Lipitor immediately before enjoying! Yum seafood and cream!

Thanks for the pinball info, I will send along. I am in the same boat, the arcades will have to do for this trip. I will be at Spa Toscana and he can visit the Pep's arcade then. Grand Sierra and Atlantis also note arcades. Sigh, this will have to do.
