Yes, I know this site is Reno, but I will sneak in a quick Lake Tahoe gambling trip. As my usual, I decided to head to South Lake Tahoe for a two night trip. I didn't realize it, but they are doing some heavy duty road work on Hwy 88 Carson Pass. They have two hour delays at the summit, but I traveled late enough that the road was open.
When I checked into MontBleu I was surprised to see a special form about how many were staying in my hotel room. The gal said it was because of the concerts that were playing. They also had security checking room keys...no key...no entrance. The band phish was playing that night, and they attract a different crowd. Lots of tie die, un bathed and cheap 12 packs being hauled up to the room. Sorry, I have never heard of them, and yes- I am out of touch.
I quickly walked down to the Stateline brewery to get in on the happy hour for some micro brews and appetizers. Yum. I then did a little playing at Harrah's and Harvey's. As I was heading back to my room I walked by the Sigma Derby. I got $5 worth of quarters and played for almost an hour on that $5. I got back to the room before 1 AM, which is pretty good for me. I was awakened about 4:30 AM with a post phish party in the nearby room. Oh well.
I spent the next day playing video poker at MontBleu. I also entered the free slot tournament. I made it to the finals. My second hand was a big one, and I was the "man" to beat. However, that was my moment of glory, and I ended near the bottom. I got $10 in free play that a nearby machine consumed in about 1 minute. I got in on the $.99 tacos and margaritas. Those were sure small tacos, but a very good value.
The video poker got me in the end, but I had a great time and consumed more than my share of beers. Oh, I see they are working on the old Bill's casino. Looks like something is going in there finally. |

According to local news three new tenants were just announced for the former Bill's location. The primary occupant is supposed to be a CVS pharmacy. Dotty's Casino, a chain of slot joints, will take up about 6,500 square feet, and the third will be a bar/restaurant called BrewJangles. There's more space available, if anybody's interested. |

Woo-hoo for the Monetbleu and the Sigma Derby!
I didn't realize Dotty's was a chain; in my wanderings of the closed halls of the Sahara, I found a half-used pack of matches from Dotty's and threw them in my pile of goodies. |
