While we were in Reno for New Years, we visited the Reno Hilton. As we walked through the place we were given pictures of the potential Hilton Remodel.
As I have missed place the brochure and pictures I will give you a brief memory impression of their plans.
I think they are going to call the place, the Grand Sierra and build what they are calling the Worlds Largest indoor water park The Exterior looks like it will be redone, new entrance and maybe the whole hotel turned into Condo Units. There was a new Casino Area, and a few new Towers planned for the site.
It looks like they were going to build a combination Retail and Condo areas along the Truckee, and around part of the existing Hilton Lake. The Lake is said to be somewhat reconfigured, and will include a Water Feature like the Fountains at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.
All in all it looked like a very ambitious plan for the property, and looked like the conversion (if ever done) will be very expensive. Of some concern, I did hear a lot of talk about Condos, and they did have a few young ladies hustling the remodel right near the front door. (You know, free lunch for a tour gig kind of a thing)
I guess we will have to see. Others may have better information, but is sure great to see some serious efforts to improve the property.

Boy, their plans seem awful grand for the stagnent current casino market in Reno. I tried to find the pricing for the condos, but only found that it takes $10K refundable deposit to reserve one.
If anyones interested in more info, check out their website[http://grandsierraresort.com/beta2/about.htm]

Does anyone have any idea of when the work on remodeling the Hilton will start? I have a reservation there for later in the year and am curious as to whether I will be in the middle of construction.

I was making calls in their executive offices about 10-14 years ago. They had big pictures on the walls of all the major reconstruction they had already planned and announced. None of it ever happened.
As I recall, they were going to have something like the Grand Canyon, running streams thru the casino, and a buncha other stuff. Sounded really exciting at the time.
So, I would not get my "panties in a wad" anticipating the changes until they are underway. |

Looking at my title, this could be about the many times, the RV park there has flooded. Wonder if that same water ever gets into the basement areas or elsewhere?
Anyway, that's off topic. What I was thinking was this?
The place has sold more times than I can count. It has "supposedly" remodeled a few times and planned many more. Still, to me, it looks about the same as when built.
Could they come up with these grandiose plans as ways of "marketing the property" to potential buyers without any real idea of implementing them?
In other words, it's just a sales pitch.
My other thought about this property is this. Since the day it was built, I have been expecting someone to stick a flying aircraft into the side of it. That is a scary location right in the flight paths. When you stand around town and watch planes landing, they look as if they are flying right into the side of the building. I sincerely hope that never happens. |

I've seen that happen several times. In the computer world, it's called "vapor-ware", a promised product that never materializes.
At any rate, I took your advise and kept my panties unwadded. I'm only going to be there one night, and will have a car, so I'm prepared, come what may.
Thanks for the response.
