Here are a couple links to some news stories about CommRow, formerly Fitzgeralds. First, they will be changing the name, which is a good thing because the current name is, to say the least, stupid. It doesn't say anything. They have an ad agency searching for a new identity.

Next, they will have a "retail presence" in the former T-shirt shop across the street on the ground floor of the parking ramp. Any bets on whether it will be a pawn shop or a tattoo parlor?

The really good news is that they plan to open up the former Golden Phoenix/Primadonna storefront on Virginia Street as a sports book and slot machine parlor. They probably have to do something to keep the gaming license active, but it will sure beat an empty building.

I had lunch there last week - a basic burger with fries for about $7.00. It was pretty good. It wasn't worth a special trip or anything but if you're in the neighborhood it's worth checking it out. Here's the links:

Yeah, I'll be surprised if the CommRow business model doesn't change drastically in the next year or so.

Someone (City of Reno, perhaps? Leal himself?) decided to cover all the empty storefront windows on Virginia with these big decal things on the windows - it shows pics of the balloon races, roulette wheels, the mountains, et cetera. It was a great idea and downtown looks spiffy. I just hope they change or remove them when they start to look faded and shabby.... or even better, that businesses move in and take them down!!
