Yes, this is a belated report; just too much going on at work, but I'm now prepared to provide the juicy details.
Flew in on SouthWest Sunday afternoon, proceeded to the Atlantis. Didn't have my pick where to stay, as the boss was actually along on this trip. But it was HIS suggestion to go to the club behind Harrah's to watch the game - finals that day, so we alternated between the big screen t.v. and the 'stage attractions' - nice place; quite civilized - afternoon crowd had a minimum of yahoos. Returned to Atlantis and ate at the Italian place on the 2nd floor - think I had a chicken-parmigiana-type of dish; very good.
Gambled a little after dinner, boss had no particular luck at Pai Gow, his game of choice. I played a couple hands of blackjack, but just broke even.
Next day was work, but we had the Atlantis buffet for breakfast, which was pretty good; lots of choices.
Returned to Atlantis and had a few libations, no luck on video poker. Ate at the steakhouse on the 2nd floor, which I'd also never been to. I skipped the best cuts in favor of a prime rib, which was probably not the best thing on the menu, but I always feel weird ordering the expensive stuff when someone else is paying for it, even if it's on the company. Anyway, I went for the large-size prime rib, and it was a monster - but I did an admirable job, and nearly cleaned the plate.
The boss then went for more Pai Gow, and started getting some good hands - he bet $5 on the bonus hand each time, which didn't often pay, but when it did, it was good - he got a four of a kind on one, which was a $125 bonus payoff. Gave me $10 to play with, and I finally caught a good run on Blackjack for about forty bucks (Yes, for me, that's good!).
Next day, I had to go to our office in Gardnerville, so I got a fascinating driving tour - south on 395 out of Reno, down into the countryside, then on to Carson City - started seeing all kinds of formal buildings with that classic architectural style of days gone by, then remembered that I was in the state capital - duh! No time to stop there, but I at least saw what Carson City's casino "Strip" looks like - might be a fun place to spend a night or so, probably not much longer. Perhaps next time!
After business, returned to Reno to pick up the boss and head to the airport - uneventful flight home, just the way I like 'em.
A good time, as always, except that I didn't get to spend any time at the Cal-Neva....oh, well. |
