Shelter, the new bowling/restaurant/entertainment venture in the basement of the old Woolworth's building (N. Virginia and first, across from city hall) opens April 10. Despite having one of the worst names ever (homeless shelter? animal shelter? bomb shelter?) the owner has high hopes for bringing new, non-gaming attractions to downtown Reno. Based on this pre-opening review from RGJ, it looks worthy of checking it out:

Thanks Remano, for keeping us up to date on the downtown area. I have fond memories of the old Woolworth's. I liked their little coffee bar and it was a good place to take a break from the casinos (there were a lot more of them back then).
Wasn't the final straw for Woolworth's the flood of 1997? I know Reno has experienced many floods. Have there been measures taken to help prevent that from happening again?
Anyway good luck to the "Shelter". Looks interesting. |
