|

I may just be looking at a triumphant return to Reno, purely for fun - spontaneity notwithstanding, is Super Bowl weekend a bad time to indulge? Room rates do look a little heavy...what's anyone's experience been in Super Bowl weekends past? |

I was there for the Super Bowl on my first trip (January 1985). '1985 trip report' It was busy but back then Reno was always busy. So that's probably no help at all. Sorry! |

Actually, that was a help, 'cuz I got to read your trip report again!
We'll see...average $160 per night at Peppermill seems a bit steep...but man, am I in the mood for Reno! |

I had start a tradition to go to Reno for every Super Bowl since 2009, one year I do it in Vegas, too crowed so I'm back to Reno. I always got comp room for my 2 nights stay (Sat - Sun) and 2 tickets to their Super Bash party, usually I stay at Harrah's Reno, last couple year it was at Atlantis.
This year I did not receive invite to the Super Bowl party from any of the casinos in Reno, but Harrah's Reno stay comp me 2 nights stay (Sat - Sun),
it definite more crowed than normal weekend but a lot of fun, if you are big
football fans then it no better place to be.
Hope your favorite team in SB this year. |

Thanks for that input - I'm more interested in Blackjack than football or amusing commercials, which is why I have to figure out whether there's a 'scene' so big that it does or does not make sense to be a part of it...I'm not much of a football guy, though I enjoy a good game - watched one of the playoff games a few weekends ago, but I've already forgotten who beat the Raiders! Shows you how deep my commitment to the NFL goes... |

Stan_Allen, look at this way, if you are tables player you will have no problem getting a seat on the Black Jack table, just make sure you play when the game is on and leave when the game is over
Also stay far away from Sportsbook when the game is over, it will be a mad dash of people there to collect their winning. |

When I lived in Northern California, I went to Reno just about every year for the Super Bowl. it went from watching the game in my room with pizza and beer the first year to being an invited guest for a GREAT party with food and drinks the last year. |

*sigh* it all sounds very attractive - the problem now is that a significant storm is supposed to be in place tomorrow night, which is precisely when I'd need to be traveling..have to go over the Sierras on CA-80, doncha know...though my vehicle is all-wheel drive and I have the "Mud & Snow" tires, there's a good chance that Caltrans will shut the whole highway down, and there's no cancellation recourse...feh!

What? Your going to let a-Winter Storm Weather Warning- spoil your fun in Reno?
Are you saying you have to pay for the room if you don't go? |

They seem to be saying there's no cancellation on the day of, which means if Caltrans *closes* I-80, I'm outta luck! It's one thing with just chain controls, but tomorrow night is when it's supposed to be at its heaviest - and gambler that I am, I don't much like those odds...
So screw 'em: we're going Saturday, and staying until Monday morning! |

Yee Haw! "Have a beer for me at the Cal Neva, then make sure you slam a few more at Shooters and then have a whole bunch more at all them other watering holes! - "Excerpted from BC Dave's, "Reno Travel Guide 2017 Edition" ... Right! ... and good luck too!
Bob and Doug, "Hey good luck, eh! Like, "Bonne Chance" as our Belle Province amies would say eh!
How about a video of you passing the Cal Neva in your red winter coat? We're wondering how closely you resemble your avatar.
We are in the planning stages of a trip too. Tragically, once again, it's not going to sync with yours.
