We hadn't been to Reno in 10 months as we had been soooo unlucky the last 3 times we went.
We flew down on a Harrah's charter out of Bellingham, Washington. The cost was $189 for air and 4 nights hotel. We had a great room... a completely renovated room in the main tower on the 23rd floor overlooking Virginia Street and the hills in the distance. It looked beautiful in the snowstorm we had on the Tuesday.
We had enough comp's between Harrah's and El Dorado for all our meals. Harrah's has redone it's buffet and it's very nice but I still prefer El Dorado Buffet to Harrah's. Even better is the Atlantis Buffet but the weather wasn't great and we didn't have a car so we didn't get out there this trip.
The gambling was so-so. I had two days of almost no wins and two days of good play and lots of winning. I play a lot of video poker but no royal flush this trip. I had lots of 4's of a kind. On one machine had 4 Aces back to back that paid 800 quarters each. The best play I got was at Harrah's but I also spent most of my time there. I also played a lot at the El Dorado and some at the Legacy and Cal Neva. I got absolutely no play at the Legacy or Cal Neva and very little at the Legacy. I don't mind losing but like to at least get some play for my money. I did get that at Harrah's.
We'll be back in September and will have a car then so will be looking forward to getting out to Sparks and to the Atlantis.

To Allison and Marion: I enjoyed reading both your trip reports. Its too bad that there were no big wins but we know how many times the trips are not so good and we keep waiting for our lucky trips to return! Im sure next time you will both hit it big Barb |

Marian,
Thanks for the report. I think your next time down will be luckier! How often does that charter go to Reno from Bellingham. That sure sounds like a great deal. We aren't very far from there and it would be easier than Sea Tac. Thanks again for the report!

We usually drive to SeaTac also but was much nicer out of Bellingham... closer and such a nice small airport. The charters out of there seem to be sporadic. A couple to Reno, then a couple to Laughlin, etc. Check Harrahs.com for more info. |

Marian,
Enjoyed reading your trip report.
Great price on the flight and hotel and you can't beat free for meals either.
I have never done well playing video poker at the Cal Neva or Silver Legacy either but have done great playing slots at the Cal Neva.
Hope you have better luck in September but it looks you had a pretty good trip overall this time.
Regards,
Augie |

I used to love the Cal Neva for slots. In fact, it was the only place I'd play $1.00 machines. It was hard to find a machine there, especially in the back section on the main floor. Now when you go in there might be two or three people in the whole dollar section. Other than the blackjack tables it's deader than a door nail.
I think to come home winners, at least for me, I need a jackpot win of $1000 or more. Anything less just gets used as play money. It's a good time though and you're always hoping that next pull is the one. |

There has been a pretty constant theme of no winning these last few months. Especially on the slots. I KNOW the slots are bad odds, but it doesn't keep me from playing them, unfortunately, though I've promised myself to play at least 1/2 the time at Blackjack and video poker this weekend. We'll see if that makes a difference! |

I actually had good luck at the Cal Neva last weekend, so much so I plan on playing there more during our next trip. I hit on all their slots, and I thought they place was hopping, even on a Monday morning. |

Erin,
I too have had good luck at the slots in the Cal Neva. Its good to know that someone is doing well there. My wife and I are planning a trip in May to Reno and I'm sure Cal Neva will get some of our play.
Do you remember if they had any decent video poker to play? I mostly play VP and my wife is a slots player so we would like to play at the same casino.

Cal-Neva has 9/6 Jacks or Better, even at the nickel level. Look for them upstairs, along the wall near the race book. |

Remano,
Thank you for the information, that is exactly what I'm looking for. I hope to take notes and have a trip report to post here.
Again Thanks,
