|

Greetings -
Hubby and I are Vegas/Reno visitors frequently and I just wondered if the whole drinks being comped thing has changed in Reno, as it has in Vegas.
First, we had any drink, comped with play....table games or slots or VP.
Then in Vegas, they (the big whigs) decide to change bartop VP machines to spit out a drink when they think you’ve played ‘enough’ to deserve a drink. Not sure what mathematical formula they use but it does seem like it slows down the drinking.
Now, in Vegas, at 3 of the downtown casinos (Boyd), they won’t comp ANY top-shelf liquor at their VP bars....so, unless you drink well drinks, you’re SOL.
Then today I saw a TR that had a pic of a sticker on a VP machine at the Flamingo that said for $6 you can upgrade your well drink to a premium or super-premium. I asked about this and they said premium drinks aren’t comped at machines anymore for lower than Diamond level/7’s - not even sure about that.
So, my question is this - where does Reno stand on the comp drinks at bartop VP mostly, or anywhere else in general?
With Vegas changing the rules, almost everywhere (including the 3 downtown Boyd properties) charging a ‘resort’ fee, it really has made Vegas a less fiscally responsible decision than in the past. Airfare and hotels were always cheap, food was inexpensive and the drinks flowing. Our airfare to Reno is typically 2-3x the cost of flying to Vegas and our comps/rooms are not near as good.
Might need to rethink this, so I’d like your input for our December trip!
Thanks - lauren in TX |

Hi Lauren,
I play only at the Peppermill and Atlantis because they're close to home. If you sit at a machine and put money in, they will serve you. I play at the Pep's Oceano bar because I like the bartender. As long as you put $1 or more in the machine, they'll serve almost anything. I like Heineken Beer and have seen folks get exotic mixed drinks comped. The bartender has even asked me to try some expensive drinks.
Downtown used to be like that, but with "The Row" (Eldorado, Silver Legacy & Circus Circus) happening, changes are being made that may have an effect on alcohol comps. |

Even more reason to come to Reno!!
I am not aware of any of the casinos in Reno doing this. If you do decide to come to Reno, come to the Peppermill. Nicest property in Reno by far. |
