I noticed this weekend that the Cal Neva has ditched the spread limit hold 'em in their poker room. They were dealing $2/$4 and $3/$6, with Omaha hi/lo and 7 stud occasionally when the demand supported it. According to the poker room manager, the old codgers that populated the spread limit game were playing so tight that the pot rarely got big enough for the house to take a rake, causing the Cal Neva to lose money on the game. The structured limit tables did seem to have some new faces compared to the old game.
The room was non-smoking. I'm not sure if that's a change or not but it's only a slight difference. The room is open to the rest of the upper deck casino and poker players only have to step to the other side of the rail to light up. |
