We just returned from staying a few days at Harrah's Reno. We were caught in the mess about the sniper and the judge (What's happening there?) and spent a great deal of our time this trip just sightseeing.
As I mentioned in a previous post; my wife (many years ago) lived and worked in several of the Casino/Hotels. Harrahs, Fitz, Carson Nugget, and also lived in Virginia City, Carson City, and Tahoe where she worked also. We found the Carson Nugget to be the most liked by the two of us and wondered why they do not have a hotel connected to it? Most of the trip was enjoyable............ |

Mick:
They have some kind of deal with the City Center Motel which is adjacent to the Nugget. Several publications have a package deal of motel, two steak dinners, some free keno games and drink tokens. This package sells for various prices depending on when and where it's advertised.
I found a link to the "Prospector's Package" but I think I've seen it cheaper still...good deal and they LOVE YOUR BUSINESS:

Did you see the way cool gold collection? Or did you go to the Nevada State Museum on the other side of the Highway? Both are too cool. |

JD: I find it interesting that I had posted a question on this message board awhile back when we were setting up this trip and there was only one reply by "Legacy"... Here now, I come along and post this, receive from you an answer and then look and you live in the same area of Oregon that I do; not even a local to Reno!.....Thanks, but I will return!! We would like to get a Amtrak train trip from PDX to Reno but all their website states is from here to Sacramento and then a five hour bus ride over??...Damn, and no thanks to Amtrak. I thought sure their was train service to Reno?..........I even thought it might be fun and something to do rather than fly?.... |

Funny you should ask. Last week, Darren Mack, the owner of Palace Loan and Jewelery (pawn shop) thought his wife had gotten too much in their divorce and decided it would be fun to stab her to death, then kill the judge who presided over the divorce case. Well, he succeeded in killing her, but botched the job with the judge, shooting him through the chest but missing anything vital.
The police closed most of downtown Reno near the courthouse to vehicular and foot traffic while they unsuccessfully searched for the sniper.
Mack did the deed, disappeared and got a segment on America's Most Wanted. To date, he is still footloose and fancy free. I can't imagine destroying a perfectly good life for a woman, or anything else, for that matter.

The alleged killer's cousin is Michael Mack, the corrupt former Las Vegas City Councilman who left office under a cloud of corruption investigations and scandals. Cousin Michael also owned pawn shops. What a nice family. :<( |

John; Thank you for the "what happened" with the Divorce Court Judge's shooting. Glad he pulled through. |
