John, one idea I have...
You may surf around to the various Reno Hotel/Casino websites and sign their guestbook (for their email). That way if they have any hotel specials for April they'll email you. It all kinda depends on where you want to stay. If you want to be downtown there's Cal/Neva (they don't email too much), Circus Circus, El Dorado, Silver Legacy, Fitzgerald's, and Harrah's just to name a few. Just outside of town there's the Atlantis, Peppermill, John Asquaga's Nugget (in Sparks) just to name a few.
I've stayed at Circus Circus mostly. But lately I haven't been too happy with their video poker so when I go down there in March I'm going to stay at the Cal Neva, even though I doubt I'll be getting a special on the room. But their video poker and blackjack is fairly good, and they told me that once I've stayed at their hotel, discounts will come in the future. Plus, my play at the Cal Neva should help bring down the price of the hotel room too.
Good luck! |

I would suggest staying downtown. If your looking for cheap rooms Fitzgeralds and the Sands are cheap but clean. Eldorodo, Harrahs and Silver Legacy are nice but will set you back more $$$. Make sure you sign up for players club cards. You will then recieve free room offers even if you dont gamble much. Renting a car in reno is great. Be sure to drive up to Tahoe and Virginia City. Hope you have a blast. |

Usually the best place to price car rentals is by going to the rental websites. Another site to get a good overall price comparison is
http://www.carrentals.com
If you're a member of Costco sometimes they have various specials in their "Travel" link.
Good Luck! |

IMHO, the best casino to check out in Carson is Casino Fandango. This place is expanding rapidly, so others must share the opinion. |

The Casino Fangango is the nicest place in Carson. It is much like the Peppermill in Reno with all the neon overload.
The old places downtown have their own "charm" Nugget, Cactus Jacks, Horseshoe etc. show how things were done years ago. I kind of like the old casinos. The Nugget still has a "coat check" They also have a great main bar with a huge selection of on tap brews. |

I stayed at Cal Neva for five nights during March Madness (mid-March). The room was very average but clean and had a view right over Virginia Street. Since I enjoyed playing at Cal Neva it worked out very well, and I had some excellent breakfasts at their Top Deck Restaurant. The only bad news about the hotel room...they had SCORES of cable TV stations, but a remote control that only had channel up or down, no numbers. I think maybe my remote was the exception rather than the rule. On the plus side, the day before I went home I contacted the casino host on duty and she comped me satisfactorily toward the hotel room. I will definitely go back. |
