Just returned from trip early Weds morning. We had 7 nights comped at Harrah's Tahoe. We "SPENT" 6 nights in Tahoe!! The weather was great the hiking was fabulous, but the gambling poor. The last night we canceled at Tahoe and went into Reno to gamble. We both did better in Reno gambling by far. I guess there is a very big difference, next time we will spend more time in Reno.

That's okay; you had to learn the hard way, but it's a valuable lesson.
Next time, don't waste a moment enjoying the great outdoors, breathing in the freshest mountain air on earth, and otherwise engaging in such wholesome activities; instead, head directly indoors for the nearest clockless, window-free casino, and fritter away both time and money at once, all the while imbibing adult nectars like some Magistrate of ancient Rome in the twilight of its decline, writhing in the gyrations of a final bacchanalia as Nero fiddled.

Sorry, couldn't resist injecting the Reno/Nero anagram one more time.

Anyway, glad you had a good time!

I kid because I love, of course - and I love casinos, despite the sarcasm above - but let's not forget the value of enjoying the area itself, too - those are some darn pretty mountains, and some fine, clear air.

I would vote for Floridagambler as the board member with the best balance of outdoor and indoor activities just judging from the trip reports, though it's hard to believe that much sleep is ever achieved!

Hey thanks for the props, Stan! Yup, sleep's never really part of my itinerary, especially lately...work has been nuts...

N and J, glad to hear you had a good time and that the gambling was better in Reno. I'm sure the hiking was awesome too. Just out of curiosity, which casinos in Reno did you hit? Any big wins?

We went to Peppermill and, as usual, hit nothing there. We used to have such a good time gambling there but the last couple of trips have been washouts. Had some fun at Atlantis and Silver Legacy but our biggest wins were at Harrah's where we stayed for one night. We were playing mostly pennies and had lots of fun. No big wins but enough to keep us playing. As much as we love Tahoe and Harrah's rooms and the great outdoors, we are becoming disenchanted with the gaming there. We are not big players by any means but the best Jeff could do was hit a royal on DDBP. (nickels) The Forrest buffet has been going downhill for years, Harvey's seafood buffet was closed for renovations, the American River Cafe is only open till 2 PM so there arent's many places left to eat except the steakhouses which we don't do.

We will continue to go to Tahoe because it is our favorite place in the world but we'll do most of our gambling in Reno when we're out that way.

Hey,
Thanks for the trip report.

What type of room did you stay in at Harrahs? I have an offer for 2 free nights and i can get an executive suite. I was thinking about heading to Tahoe for 2 nights when we come down in July/AUG. Just wondering if you have seen this room or not?

Sorry to hear you did not win at My Castle, The Pep. Smile

We stayed in a regular "older" room at Harrah's on the 18th floor with a wonderful view of the mts. and lake. We prefer the older rooms since they redecorated some of the rooms and put shutters (shudder!) on the windows which block the gorgeous views. They gave us a suite once but it was on a lower floor and there was NO view so we asked to be moved.

I'm sure an executive suite would be beautiful but we'll probably never know.

Have a great time. I'm sure you will love Tahoe.
