A firend who lives in Reno sais Baldinis has pretty good video poker. Anynne else agree? How is the sports bar and sports book there?
They seem to have cheap drinks.

The place is a dump. The sportsbook is a Cal-Neva with unfriendly employees. The clientèle is largely made up of gang members and folks who look like they sleep in the street. It is comparable to the Western in downtown Las Vegas and Diamond's in Reno. Stay away.

It has been awhile since I have been in there, but it is a locals type place. I did not see any gang bangers or homeless, but what I remember was all the chain smokers. They run a 6 pack promotion, and that brings in the crowds.

I don't know if it's quite as bad as lvbear makes it sound but there's no reason to go out of your way to go there. The VP is no better than you can find elsewhere. They've taken out their table games except for one poker table that is open intermittently, and the restaurant and buffet are nothing special.

I'm only guessing here, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were like going to "Gold Dust West" - there just doesn't seem to be much reason to seek it out.

(Sorry, Gold Dust West, I know you're trying, but your entire market's in a slump.)

Thanks all! I think I will avoid it and stick to my usual stops.

Looking forward to my trip.

Sounds like my kinda place! How long would it take to get from Shooter's to Baldini's by skateboard?

That depends on how many hookers you stop and talk to on your way down E. 4th.

Thanks Remano, but after consulting Google maps, I've decided to head straight out via East 2nd - Glendale. I'll spend my winnings on East 4th on the way back to town.

I hope not. In case you're not familiar with it, it's one of the most dangerous parts of Reno. The whores working the street there appear to be mostly drug-addled crack whores. I am not one to partake in the services of any working girls, but the skags seen on East 4th Street are horrible, especially when compared to the fine-looking professional females on display at almost any decent casino bar.

My advice: Stay away from East 4th Street, and West 4th Street as well.

It's funny, but when i was first introduced to Reno (via CA) in the early 90's, I "discovered" Baldini's from a flier at the Donner rest stop. The flier gave out-of-towner's a buy-one get-one buffet, some free drinks, keno coupons and an "ace in the hole" great blackjack coupon.

We loved the place back then. $20 bucks would have you on video bonus poker for hours, with good cocktail service, and you'd leave with a case of soda. The coffee shop had good specials, and their deli (in the center of the casino) had incredible grill specials, a fireplace, and a multitude of tv's to watch the games. I hit many royal flushes there. We used to take many visitors there with us.

Then-n-n-n... later in the 90's, they quit taking the coupons, actually telling me they were not interested in out-of-towners, but were catering to locals, huh? Turning away business? Shortly after that, they remodeled, taking out the deli, the video poker machines (and with it, the multitude of 6 pack opportunities) and replacing them with video penny slot machines. We quit going.

A couple of years ago we gave them another try. We sat at a video poker bar, our money in hand, looking hopefully at a bartender for service. When she ignored us for the second time in lieu of a newly arriving local/regular, she knew by name, we split, never to return.

I was, of course, referring to Casale's Halfway Club, (2501 East Fourth Street) for a bite to eat on the way back to the Sands (at the intersection of West Fourth Street and Arlington.

Or try Big Ed's Alley Inn (1036 E. 4th), possibly the best breakfast spot/greasy spoon in town.
