Pinnacle might close Reno-area casino

http://www.lvrj.com/news/breaking_news/43816832.html

This is a shame. Poor management ran this formerly successful casino into the ground. The beginning of the end was the removal of the truck stop in favor of Cabela's. I hope it can somehow be turned around and saved, but I don't see how.

Yea- I would be sorry if they closed Boomtown. I do not understand why they had to tear down that truck stop? There is land all around that could have accommodated both places??

I stayed overnight a couple of months ago, and the rooms are really, really nice! The casino had hardly anyone in the place, however. I found some great promotions and full pay video poker too. I have given them some pretty good action, but my offers are just for free weeknights and $5 for dining----- far less than I get from other places.

You have to marvel at how Boomtown came into existence in the first place - can any of us imagine looking at that land and saying, "What a perfect place to open a casino hotel!"?

It tells us something about the good times, but if you think about it, it's difficult to imagine how they could hang on now - and I guess we have our answer.

Thanks for being willing to be the bearer of bad news, bear.

Another report on this issue, from today's Reno Gazette Journal:

FWIW, the last time we ate at Boomtown's Sundance Cafe coffee shop, it was one of the worst casino meals I can recall. We won't be back there to eat for a while, although the blackjack is still pretty good.

I would hate for BT to close. We have free room this Monday and Tuesday along with free rooms for our friends. We have received many free rooms through the years. Since we bought our ATV it is perfect to bring them up and it is only about 5 miles to launch into prime riding areas of the Toyiabe national forest. I know the pool is still not open and the cabaret has closed. I don't see how a stand alone casino can compete with out them. I do like the 10 X odds on craps, single deck B.J. and good Video Poker. Hope they make it as I would hate to lose these riding opportunites. One thing to remember though when BT opened as the first full casino to the California border on I-80 the Indian Casino didn't exist, I will still drive to Reno as I like the gambling there much better how ever I know lots of people who never go to Reno that use to because they like the closeness of the Indian Casino's.
